J2: The Deception
As Drago predicted, he easily won the costume contest and got a special prize, a gift card, to spend at the mall. Jade had to smile when he said he would use it to buy more candy. The way he said it sounded weirdly childish, but adorably cute. It was almost hard to believe he was a vicious hot-tempered killer (and half-demon, well except for the fact he was scaly and green).
When the mall closed, the two walked out, heading nowhere in particular. At first, Jade thought they were walking around through back roads and thin forests for fun to enjoy the cool night air. But soon she realized he was leading her to the Northeastern Woods.
She didn't mind though, since she knew those woods were the entrance to that nifty magical Safe Haven place. As they walked, having short conversations about random nonchalant topics. Then the subject turned to a more serious topic.
Jade was trying to convince Drago that butchering bad guys was not the way to do things nor how to do justice. She had a hard time getting him to agree on the matter.
"Look, is it too much to ask you to NOT slaughter Marlone's men? I just need you to detain them tomorrow night and not kill them all off!" Jade said, getting a bit miffed.
Drago snorted irritably. "Come on, what's the point of detaining them? You know they'll get back out on the streets again eventually. Don't fool around with this. It's kill or be killed, Jade. I thought you knew that."
"No. The ring leaders have to stand trial for their crimes... As do you..." she said, wishing she didn't have to tell him things had to be this way. But she had to. Drago coughed strangely then.
"Hey, that's funny. I thought I heard you say I have to stand trial." he said, wanting to ignore this part. She went on, knowing she had to set him straight.
"Well, you do! Captain Black said it's alright for you to help me on missions, but if you go back to eating and hurting people again... He'll have no choice, but to put an all out manhunt on you. So, please, stay out of trouble! No maiming people like you did at the STN Export Corporation. I can't protect you if Captain Black orders to have you caught...and executed..."
Drago gave her a strange look then, making her feel uncomfortable. "Weren't you the one who said you wanted to be the only one to kill me?" he asked, his bright red garnet eyes searching her soul.
"Yes, I did... But not anymore. I can't kill the one I love." she said, softly. She looked away, biting her lip. She closed her eyes in sadness. She had a duty to do her job, which was to capture Drago, but she just couldn't do it. She opened her eyes quickly as she felt him hug her close.
"Neither can I." he said sincerely, bringing her face to his for a long alluring kiss. "H-ll, if I've gone this long without killing for fun, I can go longer. For you Jade. And to keep Captain Whack and his goons off my back. I enjoy being with my pretty lady, so I can cut back on my killing sprees." he said, making Jade feel a little better.
"Thanks, Drago. But still, you have to stand trial. Captain Black said he would try to give you a lesser charge too." she said, resting her head against his broad muscular chest. A arrogant laugh reverberated from his throat.
"No one can catch me... Except maybe for you, Jade. So if you don't turn me in, which you won't..." He paused to show off a proud confident smile. "I'm not going to trial. Period." he finished, his happy smile growing. He wasn't worried about that at all. It was ludicrous to think Section 13's flunkies could capture him. And he knew Jade would never turn him in now.
All he had to do was destroy those water electric guns next and then he would really be safe from capture. No one would be able to hold him down, not even Jim's stupid Iso beasts. He would be next to invincible!
"I know I'm supposed to take you in, but I just can't. Not when I know what they want to do to you..." Jade said softly, welcoming sweet kisses from him upon her neck. For several moments, he lovingly kissed her playfully. Then he stopped abruptly and pulled away to give her a sly sexy smirk.
"It's weird how we started out as enemies and now we're in love with each other." he said warmly, looking her over with affection. Jade smiled, heat rushing up to her cheeks. He was right. In the beginning, they were strong enemies after each other's throats to cut open, wanting to fight and kill to the bloody end. Now, they were loyal lovers, their passion devoted and true.
"Yeah..." Jade said, nestling her head snugly under his chin. "I guess that's what happens sometimes when enemies become war-buddies." She looked up at him happily. "...They turn into lovers..." She continued and closed her eyes as Drago brought his lips upon hers for a loving kiss. Jade rested her head under his chin once more.
"If I wasn't sent to Mars' moons with you, I wouldn't have gotten to know you as I know you now. I'm glad I got to though. You're a really interesting, exciting guy, Drago." She told him causing the fiery teen to feel very proud. "That's what I love about you. It's never boring whenever I'm with you. My sweet wild dragon..."
"Ahh, you called me a dragon! Finally!" he teased, snuggling her fondly. She reveled in his embrace. In a way, she felt like she had Drake back AND Hsi Wu. It was like an impossible fantasy come true. He dabbed the top of her head with more playful kisses.
"Mmm, you're also interesting... Fascinating me and exciting me at every turn..." He pressed his nose and mouth into her hair, breathing in her intoxicating scent. "How do you do it?" he whispered, enjoying having her in his arms in complete privacy. He didn't expect an answer to his rhetorical question.
Drago decided now was the time to ask her an important question then. An uneasy worried feeling washed over him suddenly. How would he go about it without doing it wrong or sounding stupid? He had to do this just right.
He let her go, but held onto her left hand. "Come on, let's keep on going." he said strangely, his tone uneasy. Jade immediately noticed Drago was acting nervous then. Why?
It was like he wanted to tell her something, but he couldn't yet for some reason. She felt pretty uneasy herself. She wanted to give him his birthday present, but it had a very important and serious underlining meaning.
She wanted the jade ring to be an engagement ring to him from her, but how could she ask him to marry her? That was more a guy's thing to do. And what if he said no? She would feel pretty dumb then.
But if he said yes, then how could they have a wedding without everyone figuring out who Drago was? Even if he disguised himself as Drake, Jim knew the truth and would most likely tell everyone. Another thought came to her. If she was married to Drago, then Shendu would be...her father-in-law? Eep!
And Uncle and Jackie, sheesh oh man! They would never accept Drago into the family. Never ever! But what could she do? She wanted to marry him, she had to ask him. She loved him so.
At last they were deep inside the Northeastern Woods and Drago stopped her from walking when they got to a stump that made a good chair. Drago made her sit on it and reached into his trenchcoat for something. Jade didn't really acknowledge that he was getting something from his coat, she just felt this was now or never to ask him that all important question.
So at the same time he was retrieving the something out of his coat, Jade grabbed the ring box out of her purse. She opened it up and held it out, showing him.
"Happy Birthday, Drago!" she said quickly, shying away. Drago seemed surprised and confused. Did she have the same thoughts as he did?
"You're giving me a ring?" he asked, as she took his left claw and did her best to slip it onto his ring finger. It proved to be a slight challenge since it was smaller than his ring size, but just the same, it was on after a few moments of pushing.
"Uh, yeah! It's made of jade and it has your birthstone on it. See?" She pointed to the large high quality opal in the ring, rainbow ribbons sparkled and gleamed within a sea of milky white. Three medium sized rubies decorated the sides on each side of the opal.
Jade was so shocked to find such a ring and close to Drago's size too. It was like destiny, she knew she had to get THAT ring. The opal in it made it so perfect since it was the fiery teen's birthstone and the jade in it would always remind him of her. The rubies were red and shining like fire and red was also Drago's eye color.
"Well, I think we should get married and it'd make a great engagement ring, don't you think?" she blurted out in a rush, an embarrassed grin on her face.
Drago stared at her in disbelief, worrying her to death. She looked away, shaking her head. Did she make a mistake? Was she being too bold or silly?
"I...I guess I'm going too fast for you, huh?" she said in a downhearted tone. Drago pulled a ring box out of his coat pocket and opened it.
"No, we're both on the same page here." he said, making her look back to him. When she saw the beautiful ring he held out for her, her breath caught in her throat in a choked happy sob of joy. She felt as if she was dreaming as he placed it onto her ring finger like she had done to him. It fit her perfectly, going onto her finger easily.
"Marry me, Jade. I know you want to." he said handsomely, smiling all-knowingly. Jade jumped off the high stump and threw her arms around him, hugging with all her might.
"Ch, duh! Of course I will!" she added, pulling away to look into his eyes. He smirked, bringing his face close to press his forehead against hers.
"Thanks for giving me the ring, Jade. It's the best birthday present I've ever received." he replied, nuzzling her fondly. Their lips found each other moments later.
They held each other close, kissing passionately. Jade felt her happy tears slide down her cheeks then. This was what she wanted. Definitely.
And it was what he wanted too, she could tell. He had a ring waiting for her long before she even got hers. That meant a lot to her, it meant he wanted to be with her and was willing to honor a huge commitment to prove it.
Jade pulled away for a bit to get some air and allowed him to lick her tears away. Then she placed her head on his right shoulder, burying her face into his soft scaly neck. She closed her eyes and sighed happily, her arms around him still. He had her in a strong affectionate embrace. With his face submerged in her hair, he once again breathed in sweet gentle scent.
Finally! She was really his forever, both through demon AND human standards. That idiot Jim had better learn to leave them alone now or else that moron would find himself six feet under. The fiery teen couldn't suffer meddling fools well.
"Come, I want to show you something else now." he said, pulling away and taking her hand to lead her to Safe Haven again. Jade was happy to visit that beautiful place once more. The sandy beaches and crashing waves were awesome at night. The sea sparkled like diamonds in the strong moonlight. A breeze of good chi blew through her hair, making her sigh in calm bliss.
The sights and sounds of Safe Haven were ultra romantic, Jade wished it would last forever. But Drago kept leading her away to a forest behind the house and she soon discovered there was another entrance to Safe Haven through this forest too.
But sunlight was filtering through the trees on the other side. What did this mean? Jade was sure it was Halloween night moments ago. Where were they? What was going on?
"Drago... Why is it daytime here? Where are we?" she asked, confused to death. Drago laughed, giving her hand a squeeze.
"I'll tell you soon enough. But first, I want to show you the house I grew up in. I fixed it up for us, so we can live together in peace after we get married. Our own personal private love nest." he purred, a frisky smile on his face. Jade was very interested in seeing where Drago grew up at.
Plus, having a private place all to themselves without Uncle and Jackie and Jim or anyone else knowing where it was definitely was a must. A hidden place where she could enjoy being with Drago without being judged by others, she liked that a lot and was looking forward to seeing this house.
"Hey, that's great! It's definitely what we need too. I doubt my Uncle Jackie and Uncle would approve of us marrying." Jade said, feeling pretty sad that a happy time in her life couldn't be shared or understood by her favorite uncles. Drago snorted, like what Jade's uncles thought about them was not important.
"I could care less what your uncles think about us. Now come on." he said, taking her to a back road where a large truck was waiting. Jade went in as Drago got into the driver's seat and started the truck. He drove them for miles, which was turning out to be a long trip.
She took the time to talk things over with him. "Ok, Drago. Where the heck are we anyway? We're still on Earth, right?" she asked, wondering if he was playing some kind of magic on her.
"Come on, Jade. Can't you recognize the country you came from? Geez!" Drago said in a demeaning tone. Jade growled. "You jerk! It's kinda hard to tell in the middle of the woods you know!" she snapped, brushing her bangs out of her eyes. A thought dawned on her.
"Hey! If this is Hong Kong, we can visit my parents! I didn't tell them anything about you yet, so you can disguise yourself as Drake and we can tell them about how we're getting married. I'd love to have them meet you." Jade said, knowing she could share her joy of marrying Drago with her parents. They would accept Drago...as long as they saw him in human form.
Any kind of acceptance was good enough for Jade at this point. The scaly teen thought it over before he answered. "Alright, I'll meet your parents. It's only fair since you've already met mine. By the way... What do you think of my mom?" he asked, giving her a quick glance while he drove.
"Oh, she's sooo beautiful. Just too pretty for words actually." Jade praised, meaning it. Drago grinned. "Of course, she's beautiful. Now you know where I get my sexy good looks from."
Jade smirked at him, touching his bare biceps fondly. "Yeah, yeah, I know you're good-looking, because you have a beautiful mom. But you got your butt-ugly features from your dad." she teased, poking fun at him. Drago scoffed.
"Ha! So much you know. My so-called 'butt-ugly' features are what makes me hot and sexy and you know it." he said, glancing at her.
"Ok, ok, whatever. Anyway, your mom...she's an incredibly powerful woman. I mean, she got stuck with Shendu, but she lives on and she's not crazy or anything. I'd go bonkers if I was her. I'd hate to be his slave, like your mom was. How is it that she isn't insane anyway? I bet Shendu put a whole butt-load of spells on her."
Drago nodded, his expression emotionless and uncaring. "Yeah. Dad always had spells put on my mom pretty much all the time. He infused her with immortality, so she can't die no matter what. And I'm sure he put an anti-insanity spell on her too. Insane slaves are not preferable."
Jade shook her head, pitying Meechi. "I really feel sorry for her. She doesn't deserve to live like that all cursed and hexed..." She paused and wondered if she could get Drago to unhex her and remove his mark from her. Maybe she could use reasoning and logic to work in her favor.
"No she didn't." Drago simply said, though it was hard to tell if he meant it. Jade continued on carefully.
"...And, well, neither do I..." she said softly, not wanting to anger him in any way otherwise she could forget about getting unhexed. She watched him intently to see how he would react to this. This was a test to see how well her love had changed him so far.
He seemed to be ignoring her then, but she knew he did hear her. But did he understand? Or care? Jade felt sorrow swell up in her throat. Did this mean her love hardly changed him at all? Was her love that weak to change people for the better?
"...Drago?"
A few seconds more passed, then he emitted a deep low growl. Jade felt somewhat distant hearing him growl so demonically. She was growing used to him being more human-ish and that growl really spooked her. She angrily scolded herself for being scared. She didn't need to be scared of Drago anymore.
"Don't push me, Jade. I'm thinking about undo the curse I have on you, but I'll never remove my mark from you. If I did, then you'd be open game for other demons and black chi wizards like your buddy Jim. So, don't ask again. It's for your own safety that you stay marked by me. Last thing I need is to have that idiot Jim steal you away from me or even my Dad. I doubt you want to be my Dad's slave, right?"
Jade swallowed hard, feeling distant from him more so. "No, I don't. I rather not be anyone's slave if you don't mind..." she replied testily.
Despite her sadness, she felt anger growing inside her. She shouldn't have to be anyone's slave no matter what! But what could she do? Like Drago said, if the mark was removed, then she could be marked by another and didn't want that.
If she had to be someone's slave, she'd reluctantly rather be Drago's then. No way could she stand being Shendu's slave. She had seen how he had treated Meechi. She didn't want to live through horrors like she had to.
Poor Meechi didn't even have the option of death to escape Shendu's evilness and torments. Drago was definitely better to be enslaved to.
He wasn't even trying to force her to be his slave anymore too. It had somehow mutated into a strange mutual level of a natural relationship between a man and a woman. Jade begrudgingly decided she had better leave this subject be for now. But Drago had more to say about it.
"Better you be my slave than someone else's. I don't treat you badly anyway, so what's the problem? H-ll, I don't even think of you as a slave as much as I used to. I told you that before. You're my sweetheart, my girl. And soon, my wife. Don't think of my mark as something bad, it's your protection from other demons and idiots like Jim. You should be thanking me really." he said, miffed.
Why was she abusing him? That's how Drago saw it. How could she be so ungrateful anyway? Oh, that's right. She's human. Humans were always ungrateful.
Jade sighed loudly, relenting. "Alright, alright... You do have a point. I don't want to be 'open game' for other jerks out there. I guess you're right." Drago scoffed angrily.
"I'm right, huh?" he answered sarcastically and bitterly. Why was she so stupid? Jade scowled at him. "Anyway..." she continued crossly. "Your mark is protection for me. I'll accept it only in that sense. Thanks." she said, irritably. Drago gripped the steering wheel, feeling equally annoyed.
The two didn't speak for several minutes and Jade looked out the window to watch the scenery whiz by. Trees went by in a fast blur. One moment, Jade thought she saw something tall and dark far off in the distant amongst the woods. She felt dread wash over her as she saw whatever it was. Then she saw it again even though she knew they had passed it moments ago. Each time it was coming closer. When she saw it the third time, she decided to let Drago know.
"Drago? I saw this large black thing in the woods. It keeps coming closer every time I see it. I-" Jade tried to say, but then the large black thing was in the middle of the dirt road before them suddenly. Drago slammed on the brakes while trying to avoid hitting it.
Once the truck came to a screeching halt, Drago and Jade came out to investigate what it was. "Did you see it?" Jade cried, going close to him. Drago sniffed the air and growled hatefully.
"Yeah, I saw it. I don't recognize this type of dark chi though..." he said, unable to decipher this demonic presence rank. Suddenly, they sensed the thing was behind them in front of the truck. Jade felt absolute dread take hold of her again.
The dark evil thing standing there was easily ten feet tall if not taller. It had long crooked wicked black rotting claws and a unidentifiable face. She couldn't tell if it even had a face or features, it was like she wasn't allowed to know. As if her brain couldn't tell her, like the information was being blocked.
Drago hissed and growled demonically at the dark thing, showing off his rank by his supernatural vocals. "How dare you intrude on me and my human, you as-hole!" Drago said, his inhuman tones extremely disturbing to Jade.
She hadn't heard him sound like his old self in a long while and it bothered her. It appeared to be very easy for him to 'switch back' too. Jade felt a bit of doubt creep into her mind that her love wouldn't be strong enough to change Drago, but immediately she smashed that doubt away. She couldn't believe that. Her love was strong enough... It had to be!
"Your...mother... may have esssscaped usssss, but you will not..." the thing said, allowing Drago to clearly see its terrible features of true evil. Drago narrowed his eyes, not at all intimidated by this cheap trick. He might have taken a vacation on his own evil ways, but he was not afraid of others' evils.
"Don't patronize me! You know of my mother, then you know that my father is Shendu! I'll personally report you to him if you don't get the h-ll out of here right now!" Drago shouted, lashing his tail. The thing made a quick move towards Jade with its claws out, but Drago breathed fire upon the evil being.
It backed away a little, glaring at him. Jade couldn't move since she was frozen with horror and dread, the best power the demonic presence had. Drago noticed Jade's unmoving state and hissed.
"Remove your spell on my human or I'll send you back to Hell in pieces!" Drago snarled and attacked. His claws went through the dark being with ease, causing it to back away from the fiery teen. It feebly tossed some fallen logs at Drago then, retreating somewhat.
"Your mother's soul I missed... But yours will do... Revenge against your father... I crave!" the dark being choked out. It was waving its long gangly hooked claws out, like it was reaching for Drago's chest.
"Idiot! I am a demon! I have no soul!" Drago hissed, slashing at the thing's outstretched talons. It withdrew them and laughed dryly. Drago glared up at it with rage.
"Your mother is human... No demon has a mother... No demon has been born... Lie not so freely about the human essence flowing through you... We know the truth about you... The putrid stench of man reeks from you, foolish mortal..." the thing rasped with a belittling dry laugh.
Drago snarled viciously. "I am a demon! I may be half human, but that doesn't mean I'll let you insult me! My father is Shendu, one of the greatest high ranking demon sorcerers to ever exist! AND I AM HIS SON!!!"
The dark thing laughed again, not worried much. What could a halfling do anyway? Humans always played off stronger beings and this kid was no different than a full blooded human. Pitiful.
His father may be Shendu, which the being did not wish to fight ever, but this child was no real threat. His mother was more of a threat with her good chi sword.
Drago's rank was not established amongst the demons due to him being only half-demon, so he was not even considered good enough to be low-level. Shendu never told him of this, since he didn't want his son to give up on a hopeless goal. He wanted him to strive to be a real demon even though he couldn't really ever be one.
"It is of no matter, boy. You are not Shendu, so stop pretending that you are as great as he is! You are the same as any other human to us. I devour human blood and souls... Full or half, it makes no difference... Tastes all the same!"
The large dark thing slammed into Drago then, sending them both into the mountain side. Jade watched, still unable to move even though she wanted to. It was almost like she wasn't able to get her brain to tell the rest of her body to get in gear.
The thing tried to steal Drago's spirit, but he kicked it away viciously and blew fire at it over and over until it was a good distance away. Unfortunately, it returned quickly and tried to attack Jade next. It loomed near her, coming closer every passing second.
She wanted to move away, but still she was frozen like ice. She felt like she was in a living nightmare, unable to speak or move as danger kept coming closer. She never knew she would feel this terrifying fear again like she did in Hell.
She couldn't be afraid of demons, she just couldn't be! She wasn't a weakling! Just the same, she just couldn't move or anything to save herself from the pending doom coming ever so closer to her every passing second...
