J2: The Deception
To Jade's joy, her parents were home and eager to meet Drago, though she told them his name was Drake Sung. Drago said to use his mother's last name instead of the fake one he made up. Shendu didn't have a last name so there was no last name to use from him.
Jade's parents were ecstatic to see her again since she hadn't seen them for almost two years. "I've been really busy." she explained, then introduced Drago to them. She had written and called them about a month before about Drake, but all the info she gave about him was brief and not detailed since she didn't really know much about him then. She did now though.
When she found out Drake was Drago all along, she didn't tell her parents anymore about Drake. They seemed interested about him though and were really happy to see him finally.
When Jade did speak about him prior, she spoke very highly of him and hinted he could be the one. And he was.
"This is Drake Sung. Drake, this is my mom, Lian, and my dad, Bingwen." Jade said. Everyone bowed at each other.
Though Drago rather have others bow at him only, his mother did teach him the ways of the Chinese and such blood flowed through him from both of his parents. He did want to make a good first impression afterall.
Bingwen generously took Drago in, while shaking his hand. "Ah, so this is the man who will be my future son-in-law, eh? Good, good. Come, let us talk while my wife makes us tea." he said, getting everyone to sit on their couches.
Lian went off to do that as her husband went to work interrogating Drago, sort of an interview to see if he was worthy. Jade felt rather proud to hear Drago give a respectful thanks in their native language to her dad. He was impressed and wanted his daughter to sing an old song he taught her when she was five.
"Aw, Dad. I... I kinda don't remember the words. My Chinese is rusty now, sorry." she said, feeling embarrassed. She wasn't fluent with her Chinese as she used to be when she was little. She wanted to be an American more so she sort of forgotten most of the things she had learned before.
Her father seemed a bit shamed by this and went on, going back to grilling Drago. "How often do you pay your respects to your ancestors?" he asked, watching his eyes.
"A great deal. My mother has prayed to them many times. My grandfather was a very sick man and I never got to see him, so I visit him as much as I can." Drago said, not really lying too much there.
His mother did force him to pay respects to their ancestors, especially his grandfather, which Shendu allowed as long as she did it at the right temple.
Drago never saw any ancestors though, his mother had said under her breath sadly that it was because they were ashamed of him and of her. This made him angry since he believed he didn't do anything wrong.
He couldn't help that he was a hybrid of human and demon, his parents were to blame. Let those ancestors be ashamed of them, not him.
Those ancestors were just a bunch of stupid idiots, that was all. The whole ancestors thing was pretty much a lying trick to him, just another false human belief.
With his demon senses, he felt nor saw any ancestors trying to contact them, they simply did not exist. Whatever or whoever his mother talked to and prayed to before must have been his father's kind since they were the only other beings to talk to like this.
They were just tricking her into thinking she was speaking to her ancestors. But he never told her since his father heavily forbade him to enlighten those who were ignorant to the truths of the universe.
Bingwen went on, asking very embarrassing questions at times. Like did he have any girlfriends before Jade? Or how about wives? Did he have any illegitimate children? Did he have a respectable job? And much more.
The questions were wearing on the teen's nerves some, but he forced himself not to get irritated. Good in-laws were better than bad ones. Though...how dare that old bat cross-examine him like this?! ROAR!
Lian brought the tea and it calmed Drago down. But then she asked Drago how old he was.
"I'm nineteen, just turned it today." he answered, finding nothing wrong with the age difference between him and Jade. Bingwen and Lian both gasped and exchanged unhappy looks.
Jade felt like disappearing when her mother asked her why she couldn't find an older man to get married to. Her father agreed a bit too quickly. The vicious look on Drago's face worried Jade to death.
"Mom... Dad... We're barely six years apart. It's not like we're sixteen years apart." she said, trying to justify her position. Her mother went on.
"No, that's too large a gap for us. Your father and I are only a year apart and it makes for a good marriage. I don't want you to be unhappy." she said, then Drago spoke up.
"Hey, she won't be unhappy! I plan to take good care of her, despite your silly age difference nonsense." he said in his usual rude attitude. Jade's jaw dropped. Oh no, this was it!
"Nonsense?! You think being six years younger than my daughter means something good? You are too young for her!" Bingwen asked in a touchy tone.
"I am not!" Drago shot back, almost childishly. "I'm over the age of eighteen and I'm an adult just like the rest of you. So, what's the big deal?"
Lian shook her head disgustedly. "Oh! He has no respect for our rules! Jade, you simply can not marry him. Your life will be ruined if you do. I forbid it!" she cried.
Jade stood up and had something to say to that. "My life will be miserable if I don't marry him! I love him, Mom! Doesn't that count at all?"
"Don't even bother, Jade. If your parents can't see the true love we share, then they just won't get a wedding invitation. Let's go." Drago said, heading for the door. Jade's parents were insulted greatly by his rudeness and were glad to see him go.
They couldn't make Jade stay since she was a grown woman, but they warned her like crazy to not get married to Drago. "This Drake is clearly a troublemaker." Lian said angrily.
"Yes. Jade, you will bring great dishonor upon us if you marry that man." Bingwen said, frowning deeply. Jade bit her lip, fighting back the burning tears in her eyes.
"You just don't understand! We love each other, that's what matters! Nothing else!" She turned away from her parents without saying goodbye. They didn't understand, no one did!
Why couldn't they see and understand Drago like how she could? It wasn't fair! Why was everyone against them being together?
She couldn't ignore this love she felt for him, she HAD to be with him. No matter what, even if her parents hated her for it. She angrily went into his truck and Drago drove away feeling just as furious as she was.
"I'm so sorry that didn't go well, Drago." she said moments later. Drago scoffed. "Big age difference. What the h-ll are they talking about? It's not like you're forty my senior or anything..." he said, miffed.
"I know, I know. Just forget about it. Maybe we should get back to California pretty soon. I can't be late for that shipment of evidence against the Marlone." she said, feeling bad their time alone had to be cut so short.
"Alright, but I don't think we have time to look for any...ugh, churches... Besides, you could just use that one cross you have already. It burned the h-ll out of me, so it should work just fine on our shadowy 'friend'." he said, driving through the city to get back to the forests where his original home was.
"Ok, ok. But stop anyway. I'm getting hungry."
"Good idea. I could stand to eat some humans- uhh, I mean, some burgers myself." he said, correcting himself after seeing Jade's stare. He give her a cute playful grin.
She sighed, pressing her fingers on her forehead. "Just turn here and park over there." she said, pointing to an empty parking spot near a strip mall that had a fast food restaurant attached to it. Soon, they had plenty of food to eat along the way.
Stopping at Drago's home, Jade put her old clothes back on and put the new washing machine to work on her sweater. Drago didn't let her wash Meechi's dress, but he did say it was hers now.
"Just take it back with you. It's dry clean only anyway." he said, going to the couch to stretch out on it.
"Alright. Thanks." she said, wanting to relax a bit herself too. "Ok, now I'm going to watch my share of TV." she said, rushing over and sitting down fast on the couch with a bounce. Drago had to shift into a new comfortable position and turned around so he could lay his head and shoulders on her lap. He did so whether or not Jade liked it.
She stroked his face, rubbing the horns decorating his jawline lovingly. He smiled and expressed his fondness by kissing her fingers one by one. Jade smiled back and turned the TV on, quickly changing it from the Playboy channel to JusticeTV.
Jade enjoyed a new episode she never saw before on Argumentative Proof, her favorite show on JusticeTV. It was about a woman who had killed her fourth, second, and first husbands by poisoning them discreetly.
Her third husband escaped the country before she had a chance to bump him off. Then she 'married' her son from her first husband and created a new family for herself.
Then she tried to kill off her son-husband to get his life insurance money. She also attempted to claim more life insurance money by poisoning her new children created by her and her son. Jade was glad the jury ruled to have that woman executed.
"EW! That is so gross!" Jade said when the show ended. She avoided commenting since she didn't want to talk over the show while watching it.
"What?" Drago asked, napping lightly and not really paying attention to what was playing on the TV.
"That woman actually had sex with her son! Her real son and everything. Yuck! What would she call those kids from him? Brother-sons? Sister-daughters? Sheesh, incest is so wrong, it's disgusting! And she was getting married to kill off her husbands for their money only, how evil. I mean hello! Can't guys tell a wicked using woman when they see one? I'm glad she got executed."
Drago said nothing since he was guilty of incest, though his mother never accepted his lustful advances. He didn't think Jade would understand him for that and think poorly of him if she ever found out about that sin.
Jade was already absorbed into the next playing episode. This time it was about a love triangle between two guys and one girl that lead to one of the guys getting killed off by the other.
Drago began listening to this one since it related to his current life situation. The narrator went along with the story, explaining how the one teenager, age sixteen, shot the other teenager, age fifteen, so he could keep the fourteen year old girl for himself.
She was smart enough to skip a grade, so she was in the same classes as the sixteen and fifteen year old boys. The sixteen year old had failed a grade, so he had to repeat the same level he flunked before.
Jade was disgusted by the evilness of it all and by how old the children looked. They looked to be close to thirty, even the young girl too. She couldn't get over how old they looked and commented about it.
"I would never guess that those kids were only sixteen, fifteen, and fourteen. I mean, they look so freaking OLD! They look older than me! Sheesh, I bet anti-aging product companies will make a killing on them." she said, staring at the screen. Drago laughed a little.
"They're Americans, they rot faster than others. But we Asians stay young forever." Drago said with a playful knowing smile. Jade smiled back. "Well, it does seem true. Uncle still looks the same after all these years, it's amazing. Jackie's barely got grey hair, it's mostly black still."
"Told ya. You'll never see this dragon get wrinkles and snag. I'll be hot and tight forever." he boasted proudly. Jade ran her fingers over his tough horns on his head, rubbing and massaging his leathery skull.
"Hmm, yeah right." she said sarcastically, teasing him. He looked indignant, though not seriously. He had a playful mocking frown on his face. "Hey, I mean it! I will stay as perfect as I am now. You know... Young, strong, and sexy."
"You mean childish, strong-headed, and stupid." she teased again, making him look away in fake sadness. "Oh, you did it now. You hurt my feelings. I'm going to cry... Not!"
He reached up and grabbed her closer to him, kissing her friskily. She kissed back, scrubbing his facial horns with her nails. He purred in pleasure, raking his claws through her hair gently. She pulled away and rubbed his nose warmly.
As their eyes met, Jade could see that intimate affectionate look in his eyes talking to her in volumes. She lovingly kissed him again. He got into a less neck-bending position and sat up next to her. They shared a series of passionate kisses while caressing each other fondly.
This was what Jade really liked, sweet snuggling without any crazy sex. Drago also took pleasure from this as well, he loved to taste and feel her uninterrupted. He was dominating her while they both enjoyed each other. This was beyond great.
When the episode of the love triangle thing was nearly the end, Drago was holding Jade close with her head nestled under his chin comfortably.
"That show looks like what we're going through now..." he said softly, soothed by Jade's loving devoted presence. She hummed a response.
"Mm-hm... Though... Don't get any ideas about killing Jim." she said, being careful how she presented her words. Drago grunted in annoyance.
"Why not? If he won't butt the h-ll out, he needs to die..." he replied, irritation in his voice. Jade pulled her head up and looked at him straight in the eyes.
"Please, Drago. He needs my help. He's all black chi because of me. I have to make things right! It's my fault he's all crazy now..." she said, not liking that defiant gleam in his eyes.
"He totally screwed us both over by sending us to Mars' moons and it's HIS fault we had to go to Hell! He tried to get me killed... Oh, I get it. It's ok for him to try and kill me, but I can't kill him? Urrgh!" Drago turned away feeling fed up with this subject.
"Why do I have to put up with you wanting to help that idiot?" He growled deeply.
"Because he's my best friend! I can't let him just hang all alone, insane, and angry!" she cried, pulling on his shoulder to make him face her again.
Drago kept his eyes directed down at his lap, saying nothing. Then he sighed disgustedly. "I thought I was your best friend..." he said, looking at her suddenly. She placed her right hand on his left cheek.
"You are. You're my lover, my sweet ugly widdle gecko-butt. I love you, Drago. You know that. But you have to understand... I have to help a friend in need. Ok?"
Drago scoffed, shifting his eyes away, obviously offended. "No, I can't understand. That idiot doesn't want any help, he wants you and you're mine. So, you can see how I feel about this. But it doesn't look like you care diddly-squat..."
Jade sighed, not liking this new problem. "I DO care, Drago. Don't be so jealous. There's nothing for you to be jealous about..." she said, petting his cheek. He grunted in contempt, scornful.
"The only way to fix the trouble we have with Jim is to help him understand how things are now before he gets even more nutty." She paused and watched him. He was silent and clenching his fists.
Jade then gave him the Look. "You didn't help much by beating the crap out of him either. You neglected to tell me how you broke his leg and scratched him up so badly where he almost bled to death!"
"That was an accident!" he shot back, growing more angry.
"All of it?" Jade asked, knowing he was lying. He growled, furrowing his brow.
"Well, the leg breaking part is... I was trying to get that moron to stop following me! He wouldn't leave me the h-ll alone! I tried to leave, but he just kept on following me! What am I supposed to do? Just sit there and take it? He's lucky that he isn't dead!"
Jade shook her head. "I know I can't ask you to not fight with him, but still...you shouldn't. You can really kill him and I won't be able to hold Captain Black back from issuing an all out manhunt for you then. I don't want to lose you, Drago. Please...please behave."
"If that idiot keeps on harassing us, how can I behave? I don't suffer meddling morons well, alright? Let's just forget about him for now." The fiery teen laid himself out on the spacious couch and patted the space next to him.
"Let's take a nap before we go back." he said, pleased that she obeyed for once and laid down beside him. He put his arm around her and closed his eyes. Jade held his arm to herself, but didn't sleep. She was thinking hard.
She had to save Jim, but she didn't know how, plus Drago didn't approve of it either. He was very much against it and took it offensively to the point where he was hatefully jealous.
She didn't see why he needed to be that way. She didn't love Jim, but she knew how protective Drago was of her, so his touchiness did make sense.
Jade felt bad that she couldn't get him to understand that she needed to at least try and help Jim. 'You won't lose me, Drago...' she thought, rubbing her fingers over his muscular scaly forearm. 'I'm afraid that I'll lose you instead. Please be a good dragon. Behave. Try...'
Meechi was thinking of her life while she laid away in bed next to Sid in his apartment. Soon, Sid would have to go back to Section 20 for a new mission that would start in three months, so he wouldn't be around most of the time. Still, she was enjoying the time she had been with him.
Forcing herself to forget about Shendu, she had put his ring away and wore a ring Sid had bought for her recently. It wasn't as fancy as the ring Shendu gave her, but it still made Meechi happy.
The way he proposed to her was beautifully romantic. He got down on one knee and showed her the diamond ring in a velvet box while they were in Secret Haven when the sun was setting.
Having a man who truly loved her filled Meechi with unbelievably joy and bliss. Sid loved her even though she was used, having a child with another male.
He kept things clean by not making love to her before marriage, they would save that once they were hitched and on their honeymoon.
Sid let Meechi do as she pleased, not restricting her like Shendu had. He never hit or cursed at her, like Shendu had repetitively. He would never rape or abuse her, like Shendu had daily. Obviously, Meechi was very happy being with Sid now.
Out of the blue, while Meechi was thinking deeply of her new good life, Sid spoke up. "You know, that kid of yours... I could see some good in him." Sid said thoughtfully.
Meechi was hopeful. "Do you really think so? I had been hoping and praying that he would be good someday. I had long given up on that hope, until now. Jade told me she has seen much change in him. I have too." she said, feeling comfortable to discuss anything with her new fiancé. They had no secrets between them.
"Yes. I didn't think it would be possible for someone like him to change for the better. But I guess anything's possible. I mean, I found you in Hell and that's something most people would call an impossibility." Sid said.
Meechi had to laugh. Sid adored that sexy airy laugh coming from her. He pretty much loved everything about her. She had a wonderful personality and she was incredibly beautiful with a perfect busty figure.
The way she carried herself was like poetry in motion. She was someone magical and mysterious, like a gorgeous creature of legend. A unicorn or a mermaid, something wonderful and enchanting. No wonder that horrid demon gobbled her up for himself.
"Yes, you are right. Anything is possible." she said, touching his arm fondly. He placed his hand upon hers lovingly.
"Yup." he replied and thought with his heart on a deeper level. He loved and cared for Meechi strongly, so he could say what he was about to say truthfully.
"As much as I'm not crazy about Drago... I can accept him as my stepson. The kid just needs the right kind of guidance, human guidance."
Meechi was really grateful to hear Sid say that. "Oh!" she cried, hugging him fast. "Thank you so much, Sidney. I really appreciate that you'll accept Drago as your own even though you know what he really is..."
Sid put a hand on her arm. "He's human too, that's what matters. He has a chance to not be evil, so we can only hope for the best. I'll always be here for the both of ya." he said kindly, hugging her. Meechi felt tears slide down her cheeks.
"I love you, Sidney." she said softly, grateful to him. How wonderful it was to be in the arms of someone who truly loved you for real and accepted you for you. Meechi knew she couldn't be happier.
"I love you too, Meechi." Sid replied, still hugging her lovingly. "I love you too..."
Loaded up and ready to head back to San Francisco, Jade steeled herself. Soon they would be driving through those scary woods close to the entrance of Safe Haven to get back home.
And that dark evil thing would be there waiting for them both. She clutched her cross necklace tightly as it hung from her neck. Though as they traveled, Jade's grip loosened. The dark evil thing did not show itself as expected. Drago found this odd and commented on it.
"That idiot isn't here. I can feel it." he said. Jade hoped this was a good thing, but by the look on her fiancé's face, it wasn't. "That's good, right?" she asked, worried now.
"Yes and no. That cross could be keeping him away or he went elsewhere to try and get us. Don't worry about it. Just be glad that moron isn't here to bug us. We need to be at our best for that stupid SS operation. I doubt they'll be happy to see us try and arrest them all."
Jade nodded. "That's for sure." she agreed and tried to rest up during the long drive. Even though Drago had napped before, she couldn't sleep. She had too much on her mind.
Back in Safe Haven, Jade wished she could stay, but she knew could come back later. Those poor underage girls needed her help to save them as soon as possible.
This whole take down had to be done just right. She didn't want any of those scumbags responsible for these horrors to escape.
Being in the Northeastern Woods once more, she saw that it was night and worried that she could be late. But Drago assured her that it was still Halloween.
"Huh? How can that be? It's got to be morning by now, we were gone for hours. What's going on, Drago?" she asked, confused and getting a bit irritated.
"It's still my birthday now, believe me. The time it took us going through Safe Haven both ways is important. That's the real time we were gone for. That's why I rushed us when we were there. That is the time that really counts and adds up in the end. I estimate we've only been away for half an hour at the most. Cool, huh?" he explained, grinning.
Jade shook her head, laughing softly as she believed him. As weird as it sounded, it did make some sense. "Yeah, it sure is! Wow! But how do you know all this stuff?" she asked.
"I figured it out when I was going back and forth through there when I was getting our new home set up. It's really a good thing for us. It's like a bunch of free time without paying for it."
Drago and Jade walked their way out of the Northeastern Woods and headed back to her house. "Let's keep our new love nest a secret, 'k? We'll be the only ones to know about it." he said, picking up a huge fallen tree and throwing it out of their way with ease.
Jade felt proud and warm watching his uncanny strength in action. He definitely could get the drop on Marlone's goons and with his help, Jade knew she could have them behind bars in no time. She couldn't wait for that part to come.
"Yeah, it's our little secret. But..." she paused and bit her lip. They were not the only ones who knew about that house.
"But, what?"
"Your parents know where it's at. I mean, I don't mind your mom knowing, but your dad... If he ever got loose again, he could find us there and harm us. I'm not exactly your dad's favorite." she said, feeling troubled. Drago scoffed hard.
"Dad's never getting out. Don't worry! Even if he does, I can take him." he said, remembering what Ice and his friends told him. They had said he took down his father easily and even when Shendu had the Talismen back inside him, Drago didn't have too much trouble fighting him.
Only thing was, they had said he was pumped up with eight demon chi powers and he was huge like his father as well. He had one demon chi power, fire, but he was born with it.
Where could he find and absorb the other seven powers? Ice said he went into trances and he could sense where to find them after getting visual clues from his visions.
So far, no visions were coming to him. Was Ice lying to him? Drago hoped not and figured he wasn't smart enough to create such a fancy lie anyway. It sounded too possible and Drago wanted it to be real as well, so he held on to hope that he would start getting visions soon.
"Are you sure? Shendu's tough. I killed him once, but he came back anyway thanks to dumb old Wong." she said, kicking a large rock out of her path. Drago laughed at her.
"Kill my Dad?" Drago said strangely, like murdering his dad was utter nonsense. He let out a gentle all-knowing laugh, making Jade feel indignant and foolish.
"No, no. You didn't kill him. My Dad's immortal, he can't die. You only got rid of his physical body. Since plenty of humans are suckers and my Dad's such a con, he'll always come back with a body to walk in on this Earth. I guess I have to thank Mom for something. I don't have to beg around for a body, I was born with one."
The teen went on and Jade listened since she didn't really know much about this stuff. "I'd hate to be forced to make a dead body live again with my life force. Dad usually doesn't stoop that low since he's too high-level, but I think he does make zombies walk about for evil reasons."
"Whoa, wait, wait. Are you saying zombies are for real? It's not just movie stuff?" she asked, half hopeful and half disturbed. The thought of real walking zombies was cool and fascinating to her, though it was also scary.
"Duh!" he said playfully with a grin. "I've seen them when I was a kid. Dad thought it might be a good talent for me to learn. But I didn't pay attention much and he grew angry, screaming at me that I was not smart enough to master that skill. Some skill! I want living willing fresh slaves, not brainless rotting ones."
"Drago, you don't want slaves still do you? Friends are much better, you know." she said, chancing this. She didn't want to appear like she was trying to push him to being good or anything, but she couldn't help bringing this up.
He gave her a testy look, but decided not to argue with her. "Alright, whatever... Anyway, it's still Halloween, so let's take a look in a cemetery. Maybe I do have the skill to raise the dead." he half teased.
He wanted to see if he could get the Rat Talisman to work his dad's magik for him. He never used them within his body, only his father was the one who could do that. Maybe he could too. Afterall, he was his son.
Jade rolled her eyes, but she was interested, yet she didn't want to admit it. If she did, then that would make her really weird and that she liked evil things, right?
"I dunno. It's getting late and I should get some sleep." she said, checking her watch. It was nearly ten thirty. Drago grabbed her hand and began pulling her towards the west.
"Come on, Jade. It won't take long. Please? Pretty please?" he begged cutely and childishly on purpose. Jade allowed him to pull her. She felt excited, wondering if she would see a real live, er, living dead zombie. Now that would be something to tell Drew!
She felt funny thinking about Drew now. He still remained a skeptic and his only son, Andy, also didn't believe in anything like his father. She felt sorry for Drew, if he only knew the truth! Of course, she couldn't let Drew know about Drago.
She did talk to him whenever she saw him at the malls or supermarkets where they both shopped. Drew's wife, Sheila, believed in the supernatural, but Drew didn't like Jade and Sheila to talk to each other since they often 'ganged' up on him, trying to convince him of the truth.
"Wait, I want to get my camera, so I can take some good pictures of any zombies you bring up. Then finally I'll have some good proof to show to batty old Drew." she said, pulling him now towards the direction of her house.
Drago scowled. He knew about Drew since Jade had told him about that guy and that other Mexican guy, Paco, both she knew from her childhood. Why did she have to have so many male friends? Grrr...
"Leave that idiot be. Let him be a non-believer. My Dad told me never to enlighten such people, you know. Keep them in the dark and let them be happy with their ignorance. It's better that way."
"No, it isn't! Drew's always shooting me and Sheila down when we know we're right about this stuff. You don't know how much he teased me in high school, saying I was dumb for believing in demons and the ShadowKhan." she said, walking ahead of him.
"Speaking about the ShadowKhan, Dad told me you used to be their queen. Tell me more about that." Drago asked, wondering about something. If Jade turned into the ShadowKhan Queen again, she'd stop trying to change him into a weak goodie-goodie.
He could go back to eating people and even take over the world. And make it perfect for all demons to run loose upon. He would be their king and Jade, his queen of pure evil... If she was turned back to the Queen of all ShadowKhan.
Drago's evil dark side was beyond anxious to make this happen, but then one thing stopped him. Jade wouldn't really be Jade anymore if she was the ShadowKhan Queen once more.
And she wouldn't be willing because she really wants to, she would only do evil since she would be just a puppet of darkness.
The scaly teen bit his lip in discouragement. He liked the way Jade was now. It took him a long time to mold her this way too. She was no puppet. She was a willing happy slave, er- girlfriend of his.
His significant other, his fiancée, his mate for life. He couldn't change that and mess it up, possibly losing her...
"Oh that. Heh, well stupid Drew got a fake tattoo that everyone thought was real, so I was mad and promised to show up with an even better tattoo than his. That same day, Jackie brought home your dad's archives of magik and I copied this demon symbol from it. And I-" Jade stopped and gave him a look.
"Why do you care anyway? I'm not going to be that queen again. I lost my mind and I actually thought Shendu was my friend. Ch! How whacked is that?"
Drago was silent for a while. "Yeah, it is. Dad doesn't want any friends, he wants only slaves and to hurt everyone he sees. And I don't care by the way. Forget about it. Let's go."
The teen began to walk off, when he clumsily tripped over something. "WHAT THE H-LL! D-MN!" Yelling some more obscenities, he checked to see what it was. Of all things, it was a broken ribcage sticking out of the ground with leaves hastily strewn all over it.
Jade saw the partial skeleton, she gasped. Drago stood next to her as they stared at it. Covered with in rotting skin, the body was crawling with maggots.
"Before you accuse me of anything, I swear I didn't do this. I would have eaten more meat off this person if I did." Drago said quickly, as Jade looked at him suspiciously.
"Besides, you think I'd stupidly trip over it? D-mn, what a sloppy kill. Dumb maggots!" Drago scraped his feet on a sharp rock nearby and dusted his pants.
"This looks like a homicide." Jade said, taking careful close looks at the body without disturbing it. "What was your first clue?" Drago asked rudely. She glared at him.
"I've got to call Captain Black and have the police brought here." she said, pulling out her cel phone. "Don't." Drago put his hand on hers.
"Let me bring it back to life and whoever it is can tell us who did this. Then you'll know who's responsible right away without wasting years trying to find out. Ok?" Drago offered, watching her eyes. Jade looked at him, then the dead body. Would that be the right thing to do?
"Besides, you'll get your first up close look at Zombies 'R' Us." he said with a smile.
Jade laughed. "Well, alright, but don't let whoever this is go walking around afterwards." she said, not sure if this would a good thing to do. Afterall, this would require some heavy dark magik to do...
"Ok, little missy, just step back." Drago pretended to be summoning a spell, but he tried focusing on using the Rat Talisman to bring this person back to life. Bring motion to the motionless was this talisman's power, but did it work on only inanimate items or could it work on things that used to be alive, but were now dead?
Apparently, it seemed to work on anything that was either dead or never been alive. The body began to stir and Jade found herself fascinated by this. She went behind Drago and touched his shoulder. He looked at her and then back at the body.
It tried to stand, but couldn't since its legs were broken off and missing. Raspy breathing was heard and Jade could see the rotten lungs moving within the ribcage.
"Who are you?" Drago asked the creaking thing. "And who did this to you?" The corpse stared at them with its empty eye sockets. Worms crawled throughout the rotting skull, dropping off onto the ground.
"I...am Clarissa...Jones... Edward...did this..." Clarissa said, struggling to hold herself up with her arms. Jade had to ask some questions herself.
"How did this Edward kill you? A gun, a knife? What?"
Clarissa gasped as she noticed herself. "I'm...dead? No...! I-I... I thought I was coming back from a blackout...!" she said, in a stronger voice, but it was cracking under sorrow.
"How can I be dead and talk still?" she asked in a teary voice.
"Tell us who Edward is and how he killed you." Jade tried again. "Don't be upset. You are dead, but let us know how you were killed and where this Ed guy is. I'll make sure he pays for doing this to you."
"No no no! I can't be dead! I want to be alive, not dead! Noooo!" Clarissa screamed then, moving about frantically. It was a disturbing sight since she was mostly a torso with one arm still attached.
Drago spoke a few sharp incomprehensible 'spell' words to trick Jade into thinking he was using a spell instead of the Rat Talisman. The zombie girl was still and silent.
Jade looked at him angrily. "What did you do?!" she cried, glaring. Drago growled, lashing his tail.
"She wasn't going to talk! She thought she wasn't dead, but she could see that she was. Obviously, she wouldn't tell you anything more. You got her name and that guy's name, Edward whatever. Just give that info to the d-mn police and let them handle it. They'll look at missing people reports and piece everything together."
"Oh yeah and what am I supposed to say when they ask me how I know this information? Tell them Clarissa herself told me when she was in zombie mode? Come on!" Jade yelled, getting annoyed. "Bring her back so I can find out how she died and where this Ed guy is at!"
"Sorry, only one zombie showing per Halloween, Jade. Ding! Check please." Drago said, imitating a restaurant waiter. He brought his face close to Jade's scowling one.
"That's all you get. Besides, I thought you didn't like black magik. This isn't the baby stuff your idiotic buddy Jim plays around with, it's dangerous and unpredictable." Drago said, purposely not wanting to use the Rat Talisman again.
It didn't feel right using it inside his body. He could feel his life force being used to power that Clarissa girl's return to life. That was exactly type of thing he didn't like doing at all. He was too high-level for such lame crap.
He wasn't going to allow some human to benefit off his life power, it's to be the other way around! He only wanted to see if he could get the Rat Talisman to work and to show Jade a zombie. He did and he was done with it.
Jade let out a sigh of defeat. "Ok, ok. You're right. I don't see you using much magic anyway, except maybe for healing spells. How come? I mean, it's good you that don't though."
"Because it's more fun crushing victims with my claws physically. Why use magic when you can just smash and bash instead? Anyway, don't call Captain Whack. Call him later. I want to still spend more time with you while I can." he said, taking hold of her in his arms.
Jade hugged him affectionately, but pulled away a bit. "I can't, Drago. I have to report this homicide right away. But I'll tell you what. Come to my house and I'll call from there, but I'll tell Captain Black that I'm going to bed, so he won't send anyone over. You can spend the night with me. Ok?"
The fiery teen held her hands in front of him. "Sweet. Hmm... You're not setting me up for capture, right?" he said, teasing her. He was very confident that she wouldn't turn him in no matter what. But Jade took his words hard and seriously.
"Drago, please don't joke about that. I'd never do anything to hurt you. Don't you trust me?" she asked, feeling slightly hurt. Drago nuzzled her affectionately.
"Of course I do." he said. "But still, anything can happen and I won't be caught alive or dead by your organization. Or by anyone for that matter. Come on, let's go." He pulled his coat off and sash. He bent down and motioned for her to get on.
Jade did so and he put his coat and sash on over them. He ran on all fours off into the night with her strapped to his back. Jade thought about many things then.
That murdered girl Clarissa and Drago's strange joke just now. She knew that she could pass off the info she learned from Clarissa's zombie-mouth as being discovered from a psychic or someone like that.
But hearing Drago joke like that, it really bothered her. She would never turn him in even though she was supposed to. Did he really really trust her or was he testing her through that joke somehow? Maybe he didn't trust her all the way like she had assumed before.
'I'll just have to prove myself to you then.' she thought, believing that Drago truly was testing her and she had to pass his test to win his trust.
Such a thing was really important to her and she wanted Drago to trust her one hundred percent. She would not rest until she reached this new goal...
