J2: The Deception

A week later and on Jade's day off, she had to run some boring errands at a local convenience food store and the bank. Drago went with her just in case Jim was well enough now to try and get Jade again.

Jade was thankful for his company since it gave her a sense of normality, a neat awesome feeling that they were doing everyday routine things as a couple.

And they looked like they were a normal couple, completely acceptable in appearance to anyone who happened to glance at them as they passed by them in the food store.

This made Jade very happy, even though she knew they would not behave so nonchalantly around Drago if they knew what he really looked like. And who he really was.

The trip to the convenience store was pretty uneventful, but Jade enjoyed being with Drago, now disguised as Drake. Going grocery shopping with him was fun though Jade often found this mundane errand usually boring.

They loaded their purchases into Jade's car and then headed to the bank. The line was super long inside and they had to wait almost half an hour before they finally got their chance to be waited on.

Drago begged her to leave and just try later on in the day, but she had to get these cashier's checks made out before lunchtime.

She didn't mind waiting since she immensely enjoyed being with him as, what she reveled in, a normal couple in public.

Eventually they got their turn and the teller began to do Jade's requests. She wished Drago would stop sighing impatiently every so often. It was like he hardly had any patience whatsoever and it was getting annoying now.

After Jade got her checks made out, the teller thanked her. Drago was more than eager to leave right then and there.

But as they were about to leave, they noticed Captain Black was in the bank with them. He was already waited on and about to leave too. Black seemed glad to see them.

"Hey!" he said, going over to them. They walked over to a counter near the windows to get out of the way of the other customers in line so they could talk.

"I'm glad I saw you two in here before I left. That'll save me a phone call later." Black said, then lowered his voice and pulled out a small map from a pocket inside his coat.

"I have a new assignment for you two. Marlone's real base has at last been found, at least we hope so. I want you both to go to this location circled on this map and scope out the area. Report back what you find, but that's all. We don't want to spook Marlone into running again, so be discreet and stay out of sight. Understand?"

Jade nodded, liking this new assignment. She might get her chance to catch that scumbag Marlone once and for all. With Drago's help, she was sure they could make this assignment a complete success and shut down Marlone's schemes for good.

Drago nodded too, but sensed something was about to happen. He didn't know what, but he had a weird lightheaded feeling, like he was getting dizzy all of a sudden. Could this be his first trance coming on?

Suddenly, six hooded men with rifles and hand guns entered the bank, yelling and screaming demands. The patrons in the bank cried out in surprise and fright from the robbers and many began to submit to their orders.

Captain Black ducked down behind the counter as Jade did the same, wishing she had brought her gun with her. She noticed Black had his gun on him and huddled close to him.

As the robbers yelled at the slower, flabbergasted customers to get on the ground and hollered at the tellers to give up their cash drawers, Drago was frozen in a trance. He didn't really hear the robbers yelling at him to get on the ground.

Jade was horrified to see that Drago wasn't obeying their commands and feared if they shot at him, he would fly into a blind demonic killing rage.

And Captain Black might figure out the truth that Drake was really Drago too, if he started chucking the robbers about like toy dolls.

Also if he started to feast upon their brains out of habit, she wouldn't know what she could say to convince Black that Drake wasn't Drago.

Jade frantically pulled at the fiery teen's pant leg to make him get down, but he stood unresponsive. In his mind's eye, he was seeing Captain Black trying to protect the people in the bank with only his one pistol...

And getting shot in the head several times from three of robbers and dying slowly...

Then he saw Jade picking up Black's gun and trying to shoot the robbers herself in retaliation for killing Black. They shot her to death as well.

He snapped out of this trance right before a robber shot him in the left shoulder. The shot went through him and into the window behind, breaking the glass.

The discomfort was none too pretty and his human disguise bled badly, worse than he expected it to. His shoulder ripped to shreds by the spray of bullets. He grabbed his ruined shoulder with his right hand, gritting his teeth in pain.

Some of the customers and tellers screamed out in fright at the loud bang of the rifle and the window glass shattering. Jade was too shocked to move or do anything. This was like a nightmare going from bad to worse!

Angered to see one of his agents getting shot at mercilessly, Black went into action. He showed his badge and raised his weapon, ordering the robbers to give themselves up before he had to use deadly force.

Drago saw the three of the six robbers point their weapons at Black's head, almost in slow motion even though all of this was happening in split-seconds.

Using his dragon speed, he tackled the robber that shot him first and began to punch the crud out of him. The robber got a few shots to Drago's chest before the teen knocked the rifle out of his hands. The other robbers turned their aim to Drago and began shooting him instead.

He felt burning blow after burning blow enter his backside before he flung the first robber into three others coming to aid their friend. They fell into a painful heap after hitting the wall, disorientated and two of them unconscious by Drago's uncanny strength.

Jade grew extremely upset seeing these jerks shoot her beloved fiancé that she was able to take down one robber and knock him out with the butt of his rifle that she had yanked out of his hands after she kicked him into a nearby wall.

The last robber tried to escape, but Drago chased him down on the sidewalk and easily knocked him out by ramming that robber's head against the concrete ground.

Black and Jade rushed outside to where Drago caught the last robber. Bleeding terribly, he was a scary sight. Jade fussed over her cherished lover, allowing him to lean against her for standing support.

Black was amazed how Agent Raze could take on so many bullets like that and still be up and running... And how easily he threw the one robber at the others, nearly knocking them all out just from that...

A sudden notion, a realization washed over him then. No man could survive such wounds like this. No human man that is...

Jade urged Drago to sit down or something, but he would not let these humans see him crumble to the ground like a weakling. He pulled away from her so she wouldn't get saturated in his blood.

He leaned his good shoulder against the bank's brick wall as he shakily took in air. He knew his disguise's lungs were no different from Swiss cheese now, but he couldn't change back to his real form just to help ease some of his suffering.

Not only would that prompt Captain Black to try and capture him, his secret would be out for good. And not only that, but it would prove that he couldn't take this pain like the demon he wanted to be if he did change back to his real form.

He was too tired from the loss of blood to heal himself with magic now. Jade was too upset to heal him herself and her magic only went so far anyway. Maintaining pride and rank really hurts...! Curse it all!

If he were in his real form, he could take a beating like this without too much trouble. Yet in his human disguise it was not so easy. Still he was up to this challenge just the same. He had to prove to himself that he was demon enough to stand this.

Blood spewed out of him everywhere he was shot at and his own blood threatened to choke him while he struggled to breathe through his damaged lungs.

Jade worried like crazy, fighting back her troubled tears. But she could not hold them all back as she cried for her loved one.

Black and the bank manager already had called for the police and ambulance, but Drago didn't fancy the idea of being taken to any hospital.

He did not want strange humans fussing over him; they might discover who he really was and he didn't feel like fighting for his freedom. Especially not in this condition. This all was a good opportunity for Section 13 to catch him!

"Please, no..." Drago said, hating to beg. "No hospitals..." He tried to walk off when he saw paramedics approaching him with a waiting stretcher. He nearly tumbled to the grass between the sidewalk and the bank.

Black and Jade caught him before he fell. "It's ok, Drake. I'll have them take you to Section 13's infirmaries. Jade will make sure you are taken care of." Black said, feeling a sense of victory.

If Drake was Drago and if he was kept at Section 13's sick bay, then he could finally get Drago to go to trial and get that fiery demonic teen off the streets.

At last, Black would get that promotion he always looked forward to. Being the big cheese at Section 15 was his dream job currently. He couldn't wait.

"Don't worry, Drake. I'll make sure you're all better ASAP." Jade said, meaning every word. She had to try and heal him in private, her magic seemed to work better when they were alone.

She didn't know why it was so, but she guessed it could be some kind of balanced yin-yang magic thing between them. Their magic appeared to be more focused and clear when they were together alone.

"Nooo...!" Drago gurgled, struggling to free himself, but he was starting to pass out. "Don't...do this...to me..." he gasped out, then he blacked out.

Soon, the paramedics had him on the stretcher and both Black and Jade went with him. Even though it was her day off, Jade liked Section 13. It was her home before when she was a kid, so she enjoyed the big old building.

Making sure Drago was properly hooked up to life support and treated for his wounds, Jade watched him through the glass window looking into his sick bay room.

She worried terribly for him. She was confident that he would pull through alright, but she worried like crazy if anyone here would discover his secret while he was hurt. He wouldn't be able to defend himself if someone decided to come along and just kill him off if they knew who he really was.

She prayed that Jim didn't squeal the truth to anyone here at Section 13, otherwise Drago would be incarcerated immediately and then they would take him to trial.

Jade fretted over that too since she knew that Drago wouldn't agree to being caged up and sent to trial, then given a sentence that would equal many years in prison.

She wouldn't get to spend time with him like she did before and she just couldn't live like that. She had to be with him. She just had to, but now it was looking hopeless.

She gasped when she felt a hand fall on her shoulder. She realized it was Captain Black and touched his hand, breathing out a tired shaky sigh. He smiled down at her, displaying his fatherly-like behavior towards her like always.

"The doctors say he'll be fine. They are surprised that he was still alive when we brought him in." He paused, watching Jade carefully as he went on.

"You know... No normal man could take on so many rifle blasts like he did. But...I guess..that doesn't surprise you, now does it Jade?" Black said, hinting at something. Jade's eyes widened as she looked at him, a sinking feeling of dread forming in her stomach.

"Huh? What do you mean, Captain Black?" she asked, getting scared. Did he figure out the truth? She couldn't blame him if he did though. After that incident at the bank, it was pretty easy to guess the truth now.

"Jade, I know... I wasn't sure at first, but I've got it all figured out now..." Black said, his voice very low and dead serious. Jade felt even more sick to her stomach when she heard him say all that. It was like he was almost accusing her for murder.

The look of absolute terror in her eyes made Captain Black feel sorry for her. Still, now that one of their Most Wanted criminals was finally captured, he could set court dates for Drago's trial. The sooner the better.

"Please, Captain Black... Don't let anyone else know!" Jade cried in a hushed tone, desperate for him to keep this quiet around the workplace. Many of her co-workers wanted to see Drago dead for poisoning them and killing their friends.

No way would any of them be ok with Drago getting off easy with just life in prison. Jade gave her boss many pleading looks, almost like a sad puppy begging to be brought in from the rain. Black couldn't resist her cute brown eyes.

"I... Ergh, ok... I won't tell anyone else about Drake being... well you know. Just keep him under wraps until I can transport him to a proper holding cell tomorrow. I'm forced to hold you responsible if he harms anyone in the meantime. Ok?" Black said, shaking his head. He was taking a big risk here.

Initially he wanted to take Drago away to Section 14's high tech prisons to ensure he didn't get away, but he could see doing something like that would crush Jade. She seemed to be extremely attached to him and there had been no activity since she had become his...lover.

So...maybe he really was changing for the better...? For Jade? It did look like it so far and it helped Captain Black make his decision to leave Drago in Jade's hands for now.

"Yes sir!" she said, happy that CB wasn't going to take Drago away from her. At least, that's what she hoped. Like crazy.

"You'll see. He's reformed now. You saw how he took down those robbers in the bank. They were prepared to kill anyone there, but he stopped them. He's good now, you saw it." Jade said, trying to convince Black that Drago wasn't the same bad guy as before.

Black wasn't totally convinced yet, but he would allow some leniency towards the fiery teen. If he kept up the good work, he would allow him to continue being a Section 13 agent as community service. That alone was breaking many rules, but this was a super special case.

Black was indeed surprised by Drago's selfless act of heroism to save the people at the bank and he didn't even kill any of the robbers too.

It was enough to get Black to pull some strings to benefit Drago, something he would never do for any other criminal like him. But he would for Jade's sake.

"Yes, I know, but I still need more proof that he's...really changed for the better." Black felt weird saying that since he couldn't really believe it himself. A monster like Drago being good afterall? That was just too much.

"I will see what I can do for his sentencing. I won't let them give him the needle, so don't worry." Black promised, smiling. Jade smiled back, feeling a little better and grateful towards her boss.

"Thanks, Captain Black. I'll never forget your help. I need to ask though, may...Agent D and I complete the assignment you gave us today after he recovers?" Jade asked, avoiding saying Drago's name here. She didn't want anyone getting any clues that he was here while still looking like Drake.

Black shook his head. "I'm sorry, Jade. I can't risk letting him go that far off from here and maybe escaping again. His few good deeds can not outdo the many crimes he's already committed. I'll give that assignment to someone else."

"But Captain Black! We're the only ones who can take down Marlone for good! Why risk the others to do it? Er, Agent D can sniff out these jerks no prob and help out perfectly! He only got hurt now because he was in disguise." Jade said, talking in vague code just in case anyone might be eavesdropping.

"Please let us do it, I promise you my job that we won't let you down! Please!" Jade pleaded, her eyes getting that desperate puppy dog look in them again.

Black sighed hard, rubbing his temples. "Jade, please... I've broken enough rules already. I said no and that's that. Just make sure he doesn't escape here. I'll be back later tomorrow." And with that Black walked away.

Sighing hard too, Jade gave a forlorn look. This was it. She was going to lose Drago to the system. They would have him locked up for years while they prepared his trial, then after he was sentenced, he would probably be in jail for the rest of his life. What kind of life could they live together if he was in jail for years on end?

Jade immediately decided she would pay his bail no matter what the cost was. She had to keep him by her side, she couldn't afford to lose him. He was everything she ever wanted in a man, er dragon, er significant other.

To avoid having people figure out who Drake really was, she healed him repetitively with her magic as much as she could in private all night long. She didn't care if she lost sleep over it, she had to help him.

Since he couldn't hold his shape after being unconscious for so long, he had changed back to his real form. Thankfully no one but Jade had seen it and she was really REALLY glad for that. With Jade's healing and being back in his real form, he was well enough to get up on his own.

"Uhh..." Drago groaned, waking up. Then his eyes widened. Where was he? "Oh no..." he gasped, sitting up fast. Pangs of nagging pain forced him back to laying down again.

"Drago! Are you ok?" Jade asked, getting up from her chair where she was napping lightly. She rushed to him and took his claws into her hands. He pulled one free to his forehead, feeling woozy.

"Jade...! D-mn, am I glad it's you... I thought I was in a holding cell for a second there." he said, grimacing in dizzy sickness.

"H-ll, why am I do f-ing dizzy!?" he complained, growling. Jade automatically poured some water from a water cooler and got a bottle of motion sickness pills off a little table nearby. She held out some of the medicine to him.

"You lost a lot of blood, but you'll be alright. Just take these." She handed him the pills and a glass of water. He glared at the water irritably.

"I'll take them dry, thanks." he said testily and swallowed the pills fast. He gagged a bit since it was hard to get those things to go down without water.

Jade forced him to drink a little and he pushed the glass away rudely, spilling much of it on himself and the bed.

She put the glass away in a huff and went to work wiping the wet mess up with tissues. She tried wiped his mouth, but he made it difficult.

"Stop babying me, d-mn it!" Drago hissed, his pride hurt. He would gladly suffer in a bloody, dying, rotting heap than have Jade treat him like he was helpless child. Jade grew angry over his rudeness.

"I'm trying to help you, jerk! Just let me!" she snapped back, wiping the mattress and blankets off a bit then threw the damp tissues away.

"You helped me enough, Jade. Why'd you let them take me here? I trusted you not to turn me in!" he cried, eyes burning with hostility.

Jade was offended that he was accusing her of handing him over to the authorities. That was something she never wanted to do even though she was supposed to for her job.

"I didn't! You were hurt and bleeding all over the place! What was I supposed to do? Just let you die in the street?" she cried, unable to believe him. Was it even possible for him to trust her at all?

"Maybe you should have..." he growled, looking away. Jade stood close to the edge of his bed and strengthened her tone.

"No! I'd never do that! I love you, remember? I'll always love you!" she said harshly, then softened her voice and gaze. "I didn't bring you to Section 13 to capture you, Drago. Ok?"

He sighed disgustedly, not really believing her anyway. It wasn't safe for him to trust her completely or anyone else for that matter. He looked at her, his eyes unhappy.

"Alright, alright." he grumbled, on edge since he felt he was a prisoner just the same. He didn't feel like arguing with Jade anymore about it anyway.

So, he started to tell her about his trance he had at the bank where he saw glimpses of the near future moments before it actually happened.

Jade found it odd, but thought it was mighty helpful. She was glad Captain Black didn't get killed like in Drago's trance, meaning his visions were early warnings of bad things that could happen, not necessarily things that would happen.

She thanked him for saving them at the bank like he did, hoping to get him in a good mood so she could tell him the less favorable news she had to tell him soon. It would be hard since she was trying to convince him earlier that she wasn't setting him up for capture.

Finally Jade told him what Captain Black told her about him going to trial and being sentenced. To say the least, he was not pleased and muttered many hateful demonic threats under his breath then. This was what Jade feared greatly and practically begged him to behave so they wouldn't gun him down to death.

"Please Drago. Just go along with this for now. I'll bail you out. It'll be ok." Jade said, but Drago glared at her. How could she betray him like this?

"No..." he said, emphasizing the word hatefully. "It won't be ok. I don't want to be held against my will, Jade. I'm not going to listen to these silly human laws when they only have plans on killing me off later. I won't give up my freedom. Don't ask me again to just accept this and take it this sh-t because I won't!"

Feeling much better, he stood up and acted as if he was going to leave, so Jade stood in front of him, blocking the door. He narrowed his eyes at her.

"Move." he said in a tone that made her feel very distant from him. Jade blinked back her tears. She wasn't supposed to let him leave. She had to obey Captain Black sometime, though she wished it didn't have to be now.

"Drago, listen. If you go out there, you'll be swarmed by agents trying to stop you. And you'll lose your temper and kill them, right?" she asked, hoping to negotiate with him although she was growing more afraid by the second.

He wasn't listening to her like she hoped he would. Wasn't her love strong enough? The answer seemed to be no and it hurt her terribly.

"Yeah, so? If these stupid humans get in my way, what am I supposed to do? Let them capture me like some dumb animal? No, Jade. I won't be held here or anywhere. Not by Captain Black, or Section 13...or you."

Jade felt herself choking on a lump in her throat when she heard him say that. This couldn't be happening, this just couldn't!

"I promised Captain Black to keep you here until he gets back." she said, hinting that she would do anything to stop him from leaving.

"Then you have a problem, don't you?" Drago said dangerous tone, gritting his teeth. How dare she challenge him like this! He didn't want to hurt her, but he had to defend his freedom...

He reluctantly lifted his right claw and summoned forth his fire magic.

"Drago, don't do this..!" Jade cried, taking a fighting stance, even though she didn't want to. Drago growled at her, lashing his tail about.

"No! Don't you do this..!" Drago snapped back, then turned his head down to the side, squeezing his eyes shut. He felt tears trying to reach his eyes then. Curse this compassion he felt!

"Jade, I'm asking...telling you to let me go right now... Please...!"

Jade's chin trembled as tears escaped down her cheeks. She moved out of the way from the door with her head bowed. 'I'm sorry, Captain Black...' she thought to herself. 'I just can't do this... I can't control Drago...'

Drago was pleasantly surprised. In his eyes, Jade had done the right thing and so he was convinced to some degree that she wasn't trying to turn on him afterall. She was on his side still. Good.

He grinned, extinguishing his fire. He went up to her and took her into his arms. She sobbed hard, hugging him tightly. He stroked her hair lovingly, his love for her renewed.

"I know you'll never betray me..." he whispered, embracing her close to him. "I can't... I love you so much..." Jade's words were muffled since her face was pressed into his chest.

Drago made her look at him and the sweet look of affection in his eyes made her feel so close to him once again. He was worth any troubles along the way, Jade didn't care what happened as long as they were together.

He could see the deep devotion in her eyes for him, causing him to feel ashamed for believing even for a moment that she would betray him. He kissed her passionately, enjoying her, tasting her while she returned each and every one of his kisses.

Once the kiss ended, Jade snuggled her head under his chin while he held her close and stroked her hair. Little did they know they were being watched by a swat team from Section 14. The leader commanded his troops to break the door open.

Suddenly, the Section 14 agents burst into the room after busting through the door.

"Release the hostage!" shouted an agent. They all pointed their high tech weapons at Drago. When he was stroking Jade's hair, it looked like he was going to claw her head off from the angle the swat team observed briefly from the window.

Drago growled hatefully at them and ignited both his claws. How DARE these meddling humans bother him when he was expressing his fragile trust and strong fondness to his fiancée?! ROAR!

Jade quickly went forward between them in hopes to stop them from attacking each other. If she was on a stress meter from one to ten, this would be a twenty.

"Stop! You're not needed! I have everything under control here!" she cried, but was whisked away to 'safety'. She was shoved outside into the hallway.

"Hey!" she cried, but then she heard what she most dreaded. Drago immediately attacked the swat team and the sounds of their agony from being slashed at by his claws and being burned was heard by anyone several yards away.

And so was their following repetitive gun blasts... And Drago's hideous cries of painful anguish.

Jade's heart jumped to her throat. The way he screamed sounded like a mixture of animalistic howls with a human man cry of incredible suffering. It was a monstrous, frightening thing to hear...!
