J2: The Deception

As Drago woke from his trance, he saw his father staring down at him with a murderous glare. Drago hissed at him and backed away with a short barking roar.

"I told you to stay AWAY from me, d-mn it!" Drago snarled, flaring his wings and baring his teeth. Shendu sent his fist rushing up into his son's gut, hitting the bottom of his ribcage and breaking the thickest underlining bone.

Before Drago had a chance to express his pain, Shendu slammed another lightning fast fist into his child's jaw, shattering it. Blood flew out in huge splashes as Drago fell to his side, screaming in severe torment.

Shendu wasn't done though. He stomped on Drago's head and kept his monstrous foot there, applying almost enough pressure to split his skull open.

"That's what you get for being disrespectful and LYING to your father, boy!" Shendu hissed, removing his foot and reaching down to sink his claws into Drago's shoulder. The nephilim shrieked his throe as his father lifted him up by the muscles in his shoulder.

"If you think you're going to get away with lying to me this time..." Shendu began, then dug his claws in deeper. Drago kicked him with his leg suddenly and got his father off him at last.

Shendu snarled at him and held up a flaming fist. "I KNOW what you've been up to, Drago...! And I saw how...affectionate you were to that Child..." he hissed, his remote 'liking' for his son disappearing fast.

How dare he prove to him that he was indeed a failed project with no redeemable qualities? He saw it with his own eyes. That...that disgusting, loathsome, ugly emotional attachment was STILL in his son after all this time?

No, it couldn't be. But to Shendu's embarrassment and shame, it was. His son, his only son had compassion in his heart even though Shendu instilled perfect evil and hatred into him!

Chan's niece betrayed him, but he wanted her despite of that! He...truly loved her! NO!

"How dare you invade into my privacy!" Drago hissed back, embarrassed. He didn't want anyone seeing that short display of true fondness that spoke volumes. Especially not his dad!

"Admit it, boy... You can't help desiring that girl still even though she made a fool out of you!" Shendu said, walking around his son, like he was interrogating him for a crime.

"You've been poisoned by this repulsive emotion called love. How could you, boy...?" Shendu hissed, staring disgustedly at Drago. The nephilim avoided his father's angry disappointed glares. He wished he could escape to the human world now!

"I worked so hard to make you... To train you... And now you make ME the fool as well by falling in love with the enemy?!" Shendu went on, his tones snake-like and mixed with two others. Drago looked down at his feet in humiliation.

Even though he had given up on being a part of the majority of demon society, he still wanted to prove to his father that he was evil enough, demon enough to be his son.

Drago always regarded the demon blood he received from his father very highly, as it was the very thing that gave the fiery nephilim his overall strength.

Without it, he would be nothing. Less than nothing even! Drago never wanted his father to believe he wasn't good enough, er, evil enough to be his one and only son. Being seen as a weakling was something he dreaded and feared.

The whole reason for him being alive was to be Shendu's pride and glory, the perfect demon warrior despite his human blood. He really enjoyed that concept, it made him feel much self-worth.

Drago spent most of his life trying to prove to Shendu that he was just as demonic as his Immortal parent, though now all that was undone by having his father witness his display of true love to Jade, his father's enemy.

"You are disgustingly weak... And a d-mn fool..." Shendu hissed slowly, his hateful words striking Drago's torn heart. He constantly wanted to impress his father, so one day he would say what a great demon warrior he was even though he was limited by being half human.

Being limited, yet doing as well or even better than the real thing was something Drago always wanted to be recognized for. That he was much better, much stronger than a full demon.

Being without praise from Shendu on this matter let Drago know that he had not succeeded in doing this and it hurt his pride.

Though he could care less what his father said or thought about him, still a part of him yearned for Shendu to acknowledge that Drago could be just as impressive and majestic, perfect in every way that is evil.

But he was not due to this love in his heart for Jade. A love he could never let go of, no matter how hard he tried. And Shendu had seen it. Proof positive that Drago was a failure to be a perfect demon warrior...

All he really wanted was to be accepted! But everywhere he went, he was rejected for being half-and-half of two fighting sides.

The demons hated him for being half human and having compassion, while the humans feared and hated him for being half demon and having a murderous lust to kill them.

He couldn't stand this unfair rejection any longer! He never asked to be born, he couldn't help that he was a nephilim, a creature made out of two conflicting species. Why did he have to suffer this injustice against him?!

With hurt rage, Drago lurched forward at his father suddenly and punched him back savagely. He had a chance to heal himself while his father yelled at him moments before. The two fought viciously then, roaring and shrieking like wild beasts.

Shendu held his forearms as shields, then breathed a massive amount of fire back. Then he grabbed his son from behind and lifted him from the rock they were on and took him on a flying ride into the side of a mountain nearby.

Breaking free in time, Drago landed on the ground near the Lake of Fire. The heat was unbearable to most, but not to Drago or Shendu. In a flurry of brutal attacks, they were at each other's throats, biting and clawing.

Shendu was very appalled that Drago would admit his love for Jade without shame after all this time. That meant that he was indeed deeply poisoned by this emotion and it was something that usually could not be undone.

Why didn't he just forget this silly human emotion? He forgot about the others, but then again, love was the most powerful of all emotions. Once it settled into one's heart, it was close to impossible to remove it.

Shendu grit his rows of sharp teeth, cutting his gums. To the Fire demon, it was almost like his son was PROUD of being a FOOL by continuing with this love garbage!

And what did this say of him? That he could only produce stupid and damaged spongy fruit, ready to suck up all the wrong emotions such as love? How dare he make a mockery of his powers and abilities!

"Curse you, boy...! You only want to escape so you can feed that silly emotion! That foolish HUMAN emotion!" Shendu rasped in revulsion, hoping to sway his son back to his evil senses.

"Why settle for so much less when you can control the universe? Why accept garbage when you can have all the treasures of the world?" Shendu went on as the two circled each other, getting several attacks in here and there.

"Forget this nonsense called 'love' and be who you were meant to be!" the Fire demon growled. He charged at his son and shoved him into the side of a volcano's vast wide base.

"D-mn it, Drago! You are MY son and you are to be a demon warrior! Not a weak human!" Shendu said his demonic tones striking and imposing.

Drago almost began to try to give up on his love for Jade since he wanted to be a powerful demon warrior, not a weak pitiful human. But when he did, a terrible crippling sorrow stabbed his heart, preventing him from embracing his destiny.

In grief, tears escaped his tightly closed eyes and his father noticed them with shock and panic. Was he losing his son to the humans? How dare they ruin him like this! They will all pay, including his son...

"Listen to me, boy! Do you want to be a demon warrior or not?! You share my blood, so do NOT make a mockery of me!!!" Shendu roared, clutching his son by the shoulders and shaking him.

Drago opened his eyes angrily and kicked his father off once more. He hastily wiped his tears from his face as Shendu fell backwards on his tail. In seconds, the Fire demon was standing again.

"Well, what's your answer?" Shendu snapped, lashing his tail about. He was ready to smack him down with it if he gave him any more human-like replies...

"I want to fulfil my destiny and be the ultimate demon warrior. You already know that..." Drago said, avoiding his father's mind-reading stares. It would be hard to convince Shendu that Drago still wanted to be a killer of humans when he was in love with one of those humans.

"I don't believe you... Lies come easily to both demons and humans. Dare you ridicule me? Show me your eyes! I will pry the truth from your pathetic soul if I must!" Shendu growl-hissed, then grabbed his son's face with his clawed thumbs pulling up Drago's tightly closed eyelids.

The two struggled against each other before Shendu was able to force his brat's eyes open just enough for him to read his mind and heart.

The pain of being invaded made Drago's nearly dead human side shriek in anguish, causing him to feel terrible soul-tearing agony.

Desperate for him to stop looking and reading his private thoughts, Drago slammed his fist right between Shendu's eyes.

The force of the blow caused the demon to reel back in slight discomfort, but it did not matter. He got to find out what he wanted from his son's soul.

Drago fell to his knees, holding his head and shaking it. He still felt the lingering sting of his father's evilness coursing throughout his being, an evilness that made his own demon side seem like nothing!

How could this be?! He had all eight demon chi powers in him, why wasn't his evilness surpassing his father's? Shendu seemed to be able to read his thoughts by having a chance to peek into his soul briefly.

"Stupid, stupid boy..." Shendu snarled deeply, his true demon tones snake-like and nasty.

"Just because you possess some demon chi powers does not make you more of a demon than you already are! They only enhance your strength and encourage your own demon blood to flourish well. You can never hope to transcend to a higher level than your creator!"

Suddenly, Shendu stopped as he spoke that last sentence. Those words applied to him as well, but he dashed that truth away in a flash. No way was he ever going to give up trying to obtain godhood. It was all he lived for now.

It...it was different for the boy. He was part human, no human could excel above an Immortal creature such as an angel, good or evil. Thus, those words were best suited for Drago.

He was NOT going to let that kid think he could overpower him someday. What a stupid idea for a weak child to dream up!

"Oh? I think I can... After all, isn't that what you've been doing, Dad?" Drago retorted, able to allow eye contact now. His dear old dad had seen what he wanted and he wouldn't waste precious energy to peek again.

"Be silent, you impudent brat!" Shendu snapped back, chucking a nearby boulder at him. Drago held his arm up to block it and the rock broke upon impact, falling to many pieces. He smiled, knowing he struck a nerve.

"I am a full demon, not an disrespectful imitation like you!" Shendu roared, angry to have his own son bring up a similar type of conversation his mother did way before Drago was born.

"I know so MUCH more than your mother's entire race since the dawn of time could ever dream to comprehend! I've seen the universe, the galaxies, the stars, the planets breathe life the moment they were created! I know their secrets, their locations, EVERYTHING!"

"The dimensions I've crossed and lived in for countless of years, I know them! And what do you know about, boy? Only the things I graciously taught you... That's not knowing like how I know existence..."

"D-mn your mother, if she had been more careful, you wouldn't even be this way..." Shendu shook his head, remembering back to when Meechi's harasser Lei tried to rape and kill her while she was pregnant with Drago.

"What do you mean?" Drago asked, interested in finding out what his parent meant.

Shendu sighed disgustedly, hating to think about those times. He too was to blame since he didn't watch Meechi closely enough while her human tormentor was still breathing.

"Your mother was a lowly peasant before I upgraded her life, but where she foraged for food the d-mn humans there still were prejudiced against her. She had enemies and a human man named Lei tried to kill your mother while you were depending on her for life." Shendu said, telling a story Drago never knew about before. He waited for more of it silently.

"He jabbed her in the stomach and that ruined your thinking, making you indecisive. I should have made her abort you..."

Drago blinked several times, absorbing this information. He had trouble with deciding on important things because some idiot human attacked his mother while she was heavy with him?

Then that meant he never was weak to begin with at all. It was some accursed human's fault for him having trouble with making important decisions, in turn making him weak in thought.

His blood boiled from this knowledge, his intense animosity for humans renewed. He let out a vicious demonic scream of rage, an inhuman cry that made his father hopeful.

"Why didn't you ever tell me this before?! All my life I thought I was naturally f-cked up when I really wasn't! Why did you let me be born if you knew I was ruined already?! WHY?!" Drago screamed, stamping his foot and cracking the ground open. Lava burst up and leaked forth.

Shendu had a serious expression on his long dragon face. "I had...faith in you, my son... Faith that you would learn to bypass that defect. I told you not to make a mockery of me, Drago. I mean it. I made you for a purpose and I will give you one last chance to redeem yourself..."

"I will disregard that display of true love you expressed to your slave if you promise to kill like how you did when I left you on Mars... Prove to me that you can still be that same evil warrior I molded back then. Don't disappoint me like you have..." Shendu rumbled in a low tone, telling him in demon speech.

Drago understood perfectly since he was as fluent in that language as his human languages, Chinese and English. He had no problems with killing humans, it was that doing so would make the humans hunt him down to get him to stop. That part, being on the run, was not what he liked much.

"Oh don't worry, Dad... I was planning on butchering more humans than I ever did before. I will make them suffer for putting me in Hell and I will kill every single last one of them!" Drago growled, his demon side happily expressing his lust for human deaths.

Shendu wasn't convinced entirely. His son's words were finally back to evil normality, but he knew Drago still loved Jade despite his hatred for her kind.

He thought it could be due to the fact that he was one of them too, but it could be the defect instead. This was something Shendu was not sure on and it irritated him.

No matter. As long as Drago went back to his old ways and stayed that way, his father would be content enough to stop being annoyed about the whole concept.

"Every single last one of them?" Shendu asked, knowing the answer already. Drago's eyes widened and realized he would have to kill off Jade too if he really meant what he said. Oh no, that stupid wishy-washy feeling was back!

"Erggh... Excluding Jade, I mean..." Drago grinned strangely as he had a wonderful new plan. "We'll repopulate the Earth with MY kind and I'll rule the world like I'm supposed to!"

"That's all and well, boy. But remember to keep the Earth fitting for MY kind. Try to leave at least a million humans alive for us and don't eat all the dead." Shendu told his son as if they were talking about simple common things, like the weather.

Drago wasn't listening though, since he really liked the idea of killing off all full-blooded humans so he could replace them with a new race of nephilims.

Although they'd be watered down ones, they'd still be better than having stupid purebred humans around. He couldn't wait to get to Jade now!

At the top of Mochadean, Jade saw Yole and plenty of guards. They seemed to be waiting for them. When Yole saw that his daughter was without a spear, he knew she had failed the first part of the challenge. This he could not believe at first, but then did not care much about after.

It was the second part of the challenge that really mattered. Yole was sure he would see Delilah destroy this outsider once and for all. Then when she married Drago, she and Yole would become Immortals at last!

"Bring our Lord and Master here! He must see my daughter win." Yole told the guards and several of them went off to get Drago. They brought him on a throne that the guards were carrying on poles.

Jade was happy to see her beloved again, but she could see something was wrong with him. He seemed to be in a half-conscious daze with his head bowing over to his right side. They must have drugged him with tons of sleeping gas!

Before Jade could go help him, Lily jumped her from the side, causing the Chinese woman's weapon to fly over the cliff's edge.

The second part of the challenge began as soon as Drago was present and Lily made sure to start it off right. The girls fell to the rough rocky earth and fought like wild alley cats.

Jade found it rather satisfying to punch the crud out of Lily. Somehow, the jungle lady was a fair fighter and got in several blows of her own. Jade disliked how the Serpentans kept on insulting her as she battled Lily.

During their scuffle, they came closer and closer to the edge of the cliff. What everyone didn't know was that Drago was pretending to be in a weak daze. He was actually reasonably alert, but he wasn't at full strength still.

He was watching the females go at it, both admiring and taking notes on how Jade fought. He rather enjoyed seeing them fight so viciously for him. Jade definitely loved him, that was for sure!

Just then, Lily lost her balance and began to fall backwards. Jade didn't want her to drop to her death, so she tried to help her regain her balance.

Instead, Lily grabbed onto Jade and they both fell over the edge. Drago's eyes flew wide open as he shouted and dashed over to them.

    "NO! Jade!"

Yole was stunned and cried out for his daughter. He started to go over to where the girls fell. Drago looked over the edge and saw Jade clinging to a crumbling rock while Lily was next to her, holding onto another rock for dear life.

He instantly fell onto his stomach and reached for Jade. She grabbed his claw with her other hand and he began to pull her up. Lily frantically tried to grab onto Drago's arm then, but lost her grip.

She fell screaming all the way down the cliff and into the jungle forest below. It happened so fast, Jade barely had a chance to think or say anything.

Yole had been watching near the edge, looking down the whole while. He yelled and cried for his daughter and angrily turned to Drago as he pulled Jade back to safety.

"You! You cheated, you wicked wicked outsider!" he screamed at Jade, pointing a finger at her. "You killed my daughter shamefully and unfairly! You witch!" Jade tried to defend herself, but Yole wasn't listening.

She went towards the man, trying to get him to understand. Yole turned to face her, his expression hateful. "I should have had you killed long before!" he growled to her. Then he turned his head to the guards.

"Shoot her! Kill this witch, now!"

Some of the guards were already equipped with bow and arrows. The fast archers took aim at Jade and fired. One arrow narrowly missed her, swiping off some flesh from her right shoulder.

Using his dragon speed, Drago raced to save Jade's life from those flying poisoned arrows as he shielded Jade with his body. He wrapped his arms around her and hugged her close. Arrows pierced his back over and over. One broke through to the front of his chest on the left side.

Blood sprayed out from the wound, jolting Jade with shocking fright as the gore practically exploded forward inches from her face. Drago grunted in terrible pain as those arrows punctured his dragon armor.

He picked Jade up the best he could and headed for the side of the mountain. Yole shrieked for the archers to keep firing and they chased after them.

Drago leapt down the very steep embankment as quickly as he could in this new painful condition. Jade was numb with fear and shock, worrying for her lover.

Blood continued to gush from his wounds in heavy streams. She had her arms wrapped around him and could feel the slick wetness pouring down.

They barely made it down into the remote safety of the jungle since Yole's archers wouldn't stop shooting arrows at them. Once on the grassy floor, Drago collapsed in agonizing torment.

"Jade... Ughh! Hurry...! Pull the arrows out..! Quick!" he gasped, in obvious discomfort. Jade blinked back her tears and bravely went behind him to do that.

"Ok. I think this'll hurt more though..." she said, grasping one and tugged. It must have been in pretty deep since it didn't budge. Drago growled viciously at the pain.

"Pull harder! D-mn it! Harder! Get them out of me!" he cried, clawing the earth. Jade bit her lip and steadied herself by placing her foot on his back below the arrows. She pulled again and kept on pulling.

Finally the arrow began to slip out, but it's sharp double ends created new damage as it came out. Drago hissed and snarled like a rabid tiger, shredding the grass and dirt.

Jade had a hard time pulling those dumb arrows out due to Drago's blood making them slippery. Blinded by her tears, she started on the third arrow.

"How could have this happened? You're bullet-proof!" Jade cried, yanking the third arrow out moments later. Drago coughed out some blood before answering.

"Yeah, well, I'm not against good chi magic! I don't know how those idiots figured out to make those arrows, but we've got to get off this f-cking island!" Drago scowled, reaching to his chest wound and snapping off the arrowhead.

Jade was glad it was easy taking out that last arrow, the worst one. Still, she was frantic and upset like crazy. If Drago didn't get medical attention soon, he would bleed to death!
