J2: The Deception

Meechi adjusted the strap around her body that held her sword in a scabbard. She looked at her wedding ring for the last time and sighed. This was it.

She tucked it back into a pouch she had tied around her waist. She bravely went to the vault that held her husband's frozen stone body and entered it without being detected with the help of her magic.

Shendu sensed it was her the moment she was inside the room. When she turned the lights on, he hissed venomously at her. Meechi steeled her nerves and kept walking forward to him.

Electricity flew up from the floor up and into the ceiling in front of Shendu's stone form. It surprised Meechi into backing up quickly, gasping.

"Sickening wench! You dare return after all your betrayals? Why?!" Shendu snarled hatefully, then he acted as if he knew the answer. A strange laugh reverberated from him.

"Ahhh, I understand... You still desire me..." he purred in a low knowing tone seductively. His cold eyes glowed bright red. Meechi narrowed her eyes and yanked the ring out of the pouch. She showed it to him.

"NO! I don't want you, Shendu! I want a divorce!" she cried, hurrying close to him and slipping the ring onto one of his long lower fangs in his frozen stone mouth. The Fire demon uttered a horrific roar of rage then, shaking the walls and causing Meechi cover her ears.

"NEVER! Never shall you be free of me, Meechi! I will NEVER let you go!" he shouted, snarling and growling at the same time. Meechi pulled out her sword from the sheath hanging behind her back and steadied it before him.

"Release me from your hold, Shendu! Release me from your curses, spells, everything! Let me go!" she cried, ready to hack him into pieces. Shendu hissed in disgust and loathing from the sight of the good chi sword.

"Arrgh-ssss! Away with that sword! Away!" he hissed, knowing he was defenseless at this point against that sword.

Meechi pressed a button on the wall, making the criss-cross metal bars encasing Shendu slide away. She was free to chop away and Shendu knew it.

"Please! Don't! Free me first and I will do anything you say!" he quickly begged, not wanting to feel the unbearable agony from that sacred blade. Meechi frowned at him, not believing him.

"Enough of your lies, Shendu! I won't be tricked by you again. I don't want to be married to you anymore!" She raised the blade and swung hard.

The blade bit into his stone flesh, chips and pebbles breaking away. He screamed in misery as dark blood seeped through his wound.

"Alright! Alright! I'll permit the annulment! Just stop!" he cried, wailing. It was very rare to hear him sob like this and Meechi felt a bit pleased.

Always before it was her who was the one crying. Now finally, she could get him to weep instead. Good! He deserved this pain!

"How do I know you've done it?" she asked, not sure how to believe anything he said. He would say anything to escape pain and beatings.

Shendu took some time recovering and answered her after a long period of silence. "You don't. But return me to flesh and blood and you will..." he rumbled, desperately wanting her to free him so he could punish her for this insulting outrage.

Plus, he could sense that his brothers and sisters would be released from Hell soon and if he was stuck in stone, he'd have no chance of defending his physical body from obliteration.

They could easily smash his stone body into dust and he would be downgraded instantly. His siblings would torture him mercilessly and without a physical body to fight back with, he would be doomed.

If he lost his physical body, he would not get another unless another sucker like Wong came along to resurrect him. He didn't feel like waiting for a new fool to come along, plus there were no guarantees that one ever would.

He would have to quickly convince Meechi into freeing him as soon as possible otherwise he was doomed to lose yet another a powerful body.

It would take him too long to create another and with his siblings free, they would surely beat him every waking moment. He then would never get a chance to summon a new physical form on his own.

"Forget it! I'm not the same naive person as before, Shendu! I'm not going to let you out again!" she said angrily, raising the sword again for another hit. Shendu had to act fast to stop her.

"My brothers and sisters will soon be released from the void and they will hunt you down, Meechi. Especially my two brothers you insulted in Hell. You will need someone to protect you from them and there is no better protector than I, your beloved husband." he said, pleased to see her lowering the sword. He was growing confident that deceiving her again would not be hard afterall.

"They're going to be let out? How? Why?" she asked, fearful. She might have been glad in one sense, if she wasn't in a loving relationship with Sid.

She wanted to live now, even though she was cursed. Plus, having demons running lose on Earth simply wasn't safe! All of humanity would be in danger.

"It is of no matter! They are coming and we are both doomed if you don't let me out of this prison of stone. I will protect you, believe me... Afterall, you are my favorite..." he purred, trying to seduce her. She backed away, glaring.

"Your favorite to torture endlessly you mean!" Meechi paused to give him a distrustful touchy glare.

"Besides, Drago will protect me from your brothers and sisters, so I don't need you." she said, fairly confident that her son would do everything in his power to help her. Especially now that he was acting more human. Shendu scoffed at her scornfully.

"Don't be so absurd and foolish! Our son is NOT strong enough to protect you or himself from my kind! He will fall under their claws just like all full-blooded humans! If you don't want him to die, you will do as I say and free me!" he snarled, growing annoyed fast.

Meechi shook her head. "I won't! Dying is better than letting you free so you can torture me and everyone else forever!" Shendu hissed at her, angry that he couldn't get her to obey him instantly. Maybe tricking her again wasn't going to be as easy as he first thought.

"Perishing will not come swiftly, my dear. My siblings will torture you the same as I have, worse even! I will be tormented as well and that should not be so when I can be valuable help to you! I can save you from them! Just let me!"

"No! I rather Drago save me from them! I know he does love me as a mother still! Even though it is only an ounce of real love, it still counts! You have none of that! You are a heartless monster!" she cried, trying to not lose her nerve.

Shendu laughed a mean laugh, belittling her. "Idiotic nonsense! Drago is as heartless as any demon, I've trained him well. Do not dare to insult me with such garbage!"

Suddenly, a voice said, "Drago does have a heart!" Meechi turned to see Jade coming into the vault.

"Jade!" she gasped. How did she know she was here? She thought her cloaking spell had concealed her from the security cameras.

"Accursed Child! You dare interrupt?" Shendu hissed, extremely loathsome of Jackie's niece. She was almost worse than his archenemy, Jackie Chan. Jade totally ignored the Fire demon and went to Meechi.

"Don't make the same mistake twice! Don't let him out!" Jade cried, holding onto her arms that still clung to the sword. Meechi smiled gently at her.

"Don't worry, Jade. I wasn't going to." she said. Shendu growled, making both women look at him with irritation.

"Fools! Apocalypse will be upon us all and you stand around doing nothing to save yourselves! I will deal with my siblings and I promise you both will be spared." he said, saying whatever he could to get freed.

Then he noticed the ring on Jade's finger and inquired about it, but behaved as if she had just committed blasphemy.

"Ahhh-sss! Child! Who gave you that ring?" he hissed, eyes glowing red again. Jade held up her hand and looked at it.

"This? Drago gave it to me." she admitted, feeling kinda strange. In a way, she was with her future in-laws. Being reminded that Shendu would be her father-in-law was pretty creepy. She avoided his evil gaze.

"Why would he give you a ring that looks so much like the ring I've given to Meechi...?" Shendu asked, but he already knew the answer and he was instantly against it. Meechi had known long before about that ring and smiled fondly at Jade.

"I know that he proposed to you." she said, kindly. Jade smiled shyly. "Well, I kinda beat him to the punch actually. But he did ask me to marry him right afterwards."

"I know you'll both be happy together." Meechi said, hugging Jade. She hugged her back, very pleased that someone was glad for her and didn't criticize her either.

Jade felt very close to Meechi due to her overall acceptance of her being Drago's fiancée. It was about time someone liked and approved of it besides Drago and herself.

"Of course. I love him and he loves me." Jade said proudly. Meechi gave her a joyful motherly look of kindness. Maybe she could get those grandchildren she thought she'd never get afterall.

Suddenly, their happy time was interrupted as a haughty evil laugh erupted from the Fire demon. They looked to him again, giving upset annoyed stares. Jade narrowed her eyes at him. What was he laughing for?

"How inane! He is simply fooling you, Child." Shendu said in a very VERY demeaning, belittling tone. If he wasn't stone, he would be shaking his head in disgust and grinning at Jade. He found her foolishness incredible.

"My son, Drago... He has no real heart... And no real compassion! He only loves death and destruction. He does not love you, silly..silly Child..." The Fire demon's voice was low, rumbling through their bones while his tone was extremely disparaging.

Meechi cringed hearing this tone from him, even though it wasn't directed to her. It was the same evil insulting tone he used for her when he was torturing her when she was near the brink of insanity. Jade was not frightened though.

Instead, Jade was filled with rage and rebutted immediately. "He DOES love me, Shendu! I know him! He does have a heart! AND he does have compassion! I've seen it! He's admitted it even!" she shouted, her fists trembling.

Shendu was so outraged by her rebuttal, that he was blinded by extreme hatred and couldn't think straight. If he wasn't stone, he would have killed her right there and then. How DARE she insult him like that?

How DARE she say that she knows his son more than he does? Like he knew nothing and she knew everything about the spawn that he carefully planned out and created... THAT was what she was saying!

There was no chance in eternity that he would let her get away with such a sassy mouth...

Suddenly, Jade was struck with some sort of energy from Shendu and she was thrown back into the wall near the door of the vault.

Somehow, Jade's ring was knocked off her finger by the Fire demon's magic. It fell to the floor and rolled close to the door. Meechi raced to Jade to check on her.

"You DARE speak to me with such an insolent tongue, human?!" he yelled, his voice expressing his enraged feelings. Hideous demonic gurgling growls rolled out from him in waves. The atmosphere grew even colder to the point where it was freezing.

"I have trained him to be as evil and hateful as any demon! Yet, you claim he is not? D-mn you, Child, for your lies and insults!" Shendu snarled, wishing he was free to torment them both to ease his rage. He let loose more of his anger verbally.

"Disgusting stupid humans, may you ALL rot and die pitiful ugly deaths in Hell!" he shrieked and roared in his demon voice, which was very serpent-like.

His vicious hateful growling was continuous and frightening. He sounded like many big cats mixed into one ready to tear anyone apart. He was extremely upset and angry, his rage boiling like lava.

"Are you alright, Jade?" Meechi asked, ignoring Shendu the best she could while helping her future daughter-in-law. Jade kept rubbing the back of her head where she hit the wall.

"I don't...know... Ohhh, man...! I feel sick... Uhhh!" she mumbled and groaned, then Meechi saw two bumps forming on her forehead. They grew a bit more and soon Meechi figured out they were horns.

Jade felt really sick so much so that she had to leave right away to find a bathroom so she could vomit. Meechi couldn't stop her and she ran off, complaining in pain and illness. Meechi turned to Shendu angrily.

"What did you do to her?" she asked, very upset. Shendu's anger melted away fast, pleased to see his curse worked perfectly. He chuckled sexily at her. Meechi narrowed her eyes more at him.

"I just discovered a way to make you free me... I've cursed the Child. She will turn into a beast and only I can cure her. She will die in two days if you do not free me. I will not cure her while I am still stone." Shendu said, satisfied to see Meechi's broken mortified expression.

Meechi shook her head hard and sobbed. "But- I...I can't free you!" she cried, shaking. Shendu was instantly fed-up when he heard that answer. Surely this ploy would work for him! Why didn't she take the bait?!

"Then the Child dies! And you are to blame!" he snapped, pausing a bit before going on. "Once Drago finds out you did nothing to help his slave, then he WILL torment you worse than I ever could!"

Meechi bit her lip and sobbed more. She knew Shendu was right, Drago would definitely blame her too if he ever found out about this new mess. What could she do? She didn't want to free Shendu, he was simply too dangerous.

All the horrors he put her through when he used to be free, Meechi did NOT want to relive those living nightmares again!

Hearing Meechi weep miserably disgusted the Fire demon greatly. He couldn't stand humans as it was, and he simply wasn't going to put up with ones that wouldn't help him.

"Now, get out of my sight! If you won't help me, then I'll never help you!" Shendu hissed and grew silent, ignoring her. Until she showed signs that she would release him, he would turn a deaf ear to anything she had to say.

Meechi felt horrible. She had to help Jade, but she just couldn't let Shendu out. She grabbed Jade's ring off the floor, then rushed out of the vault and shut the door, still crying.

She ignored the people asking if she was supposed to be there or not and searched for Jade. She could sense where she was and found her in a locked stall.

"Jade, I'm so sorry for this, forgive me..." Meechi said, tears flowing down her cheeks. Then she noticed a green tail peeking out from the stall. "Jade? Jade?" Meechi asked over and over.

    "Go away!"

The Chinese woman gasped. Jade's voice sounded different already, reptilian and scary. She could tell she was also crying.

"Please, Jade! Let me help you! I can try and undo the spell!" Meechi's voice was frantic as she continued on.

"Shendu says you'll die in two days, but I can't let you be cured by him. He won't do it unless he's released and I just can't let him free again. Come with me, I'll try and figure out something." Meechi said in a rush, unsure if she really could do anything to help her.

The stall door opened and Jade was panting hard since it was painful to transform into a beast, a dragon. Meechi went to her and tried to lead her away. Jade pushed her aside roughly. Her new uncanny strength made Meechi stumble.

"No, I can't go with you or anyone! I just can't go back out there! Everyone will see me... I've got to get away before they see me!" she cried and went to a window that went to the outside.

"They can't see that I've become a monster! Ohh, I even sound like one!" Her voice cracked as a sob overtook her hard. She sounded terrible, she didn't sound female even! She sounded...like a real ugly monster!

Jade pried the window out with her new dragon strength and left quickly. Meechi called for her to come back over and over, but she didn't listen.

Meechi climbed up into the open hole and found herself in an alley. But Jade was nowhere to be seen. Meechi bit her lip in shame. This was her fault. If she didn't go see Shendu, then Jade wouldn't have gotten attacked. She had to make this right, but how??

Jade ran through all the back roads travelling through the night, dazed with pain and embarrassment. She stopped once she made it to a wooded area and looked at her hands that were now huge claws.

She leaned up against a tree and wept. She took another look at her claws and noticed her ring was gone.

Shock and sadness ran through her. What happened to it? She didn't remember it falling off. Definitely Shendu must have done something to it, she just knew it.

Before when she was a kid, she might have thought turning into a real dragon would have been pretty cool.

But not now. It was too painful besides. She never puked so much in her life and pitied the person who had to clean up the mess she left in that stall in the bathroom.

And Meechi had said something about her dying in two days if she wasn't cured. She couldn't die, she just couldn't. Especially not now!

Marlone still wasn't caught yet and he was at large as were many other notorious criminals.

Lost in terrible thoughts, she was startled to see someone coming up to her from a distance. In a panic, she tried to flee, but whoever it was caught up to her in seconds and grabbed her.

"Jade, why are you...-" Drago trailed off and stared at her in disbelief.

Jade hid her face with her claws and cried hard. He pulled her clawed hands away and she could see the surprise and confusion in his eyes.

"What happened to you?" he asked, then began sniffing her inadvertently. She wondered why he was smelling her like this.

"There's a black chi spell on you... It smells like my Dad's work..." he said slowly, not pleased to be smelling such evil dark magik on her. He looked her directly in the eyes.

"This is a really nasty spell, it's got a death bomb attached to it. What happened? Why did you go near my Dad?"

"I-I...I heard your mom talking to Shendu in the vault and he was trying to get her to release him, so I went in to make sure she wouldn't let him out again." Jade began, explaining and crying at the same time.

"Then your dad noticed the ring you gave me and I had to let him know we love each other. Shendu said it's impossible for you to really love anything except evil things and I got extremely angry." She paused to wiped at her eyes, hating her freaky animal-like clawed hands.

"I was yelling and told him how you truly love me and then he hit me with some kind of energy blast, it knocked me across the room!" Jade concluded, hating how ugly and monstrous her voice had become.

Then she feared something. "You still love me, don't you? I mean, I sound so scary and I look like a real monster! I'm such an ugly beast now..." she said, cringing every time she had to hear her new voice.

She absolutely hated the way she sounded now, so snake-like and hideous. She didn't sound even remotely human anymore. It devastated her to death. How could anyone love her now? She wasn't a human being anymore!

In all her peril, she was shaken up badly. She knew that Drago was first attracted to her by her looks then her confident fighting personality.

But now she wasn't who she was anymore. She was a big ugly monster instead! She couldn't think clearly at all and feared Drago wouldn't love her anymore. She was a terrible nervous wreck that she was doubting everything.

Drago hugged her tightly, though it was difficult to do since she was bigger than he was and very inhumanly shaped.

"H-ll yeah, I still love you! How can I not? You look even better with all those scales now..." he teased, trying to raise her spirits. But she only felt worse.

"Drago, please don't joke! This is serious! I don't want to stay like this and I won't anyway since I'll die if I can't be changed back! Help me!" she cried, hiding her face again.

"Ok, ok! I will, but I just have to figure out how. Dad's spells are really tough to undo, but I will think of something." he promised, nuzzling her. She felt too sad and terrible to nuzzle back.

"How can you stand it...? To look something like how I do now... I'd go crazy, I wouldn't want to live." Jade said, hanging her head.

Drago sat next to her, struggling to think of a way to change her back, but he didn't know where to begin at with a spell from scratch.

If any reversal spell was done wrong on her, she would die just the same. This was some pinch, that was for sure!

"Hey, I think I look quite awesome actually. I love the way I look and apparently, so did you. It's not so bad being green..." he said with a smile, then it died away as he became serious again.

"But in your case it is. Don't worry, if I can't come up with a reversal spell, then I'll make Dad give me the cure. I won't let you down, Jade. I promise you that." he said, stroking her large thick neck.

"I have to get to Uncle's, he might find a cure too. I can't afford not to try all my options." she said and got up on all fours. Drago stood up as well.

"I'll go with you." he offered, but Jade declined.

"No, it's better if you don't. Uncle will think you did this to me and he won't let you in the house for sure." She paused to sigh shakily.

"I'm sure Uncle can cure me. He's got to..."

"Alright... I'll try and come up with a spell just in case your Uncle can't break the spell." Drago stroked her face gently.

"Like I said, Dad's spells are murder to reverse. Be careful, I doubt people in the city will react calmly when they see a dragon rushing through the streets."

The upset look on her face stabbed at his heart, making him feel sorry for her.

"Make sure to travel on the rooftops. It's safer. That's what I used to do before I mastered shape-shifting."

Jade nodded. "I'll be careful." she said and Drago hugged her neck. She took off into the night and he waited a bit until he followed her. He had to make sure she got to Uncle's shop safely.
